Basic Information: Check is an altered 10 year old Yorkie. He was given to the other as a gift 8 years ago and is being surrendered because the owner is moving an apartment that does not allow pets. Check has recently seen a vet and is in good health expect he is blind.
Social Life and Personality: Check has been around children of all ages and is relaxed, tolerant, and is gentle during play. He has been around dogs of all ages. He is relaxed and exuberant during play with dogs. He has not been around cats to know his behavior with them. Check is kept mostly indoors and has a medium activity level. His owner describes him as playful, confident, excitable, affectionate, mellow, independent, and friendly.
Behavior: Check is not bothered if a person touches or removes his food bowl or treats. He is friendly and think people are playing if they take his toys from him. He is not bothered when bathed, groomed or has his nails trimmed. He enjoys being brushed, held, and picked up. He is friendly to strangers that approach his home or family.
For a New Family to Know: Check is house trained. He will use the bathroom either outside or on his training pads but because Check is blind he will have a hard time finding his training pads in a new home. He lived in one home since before he was blind so he was well accustomed to getting around his home. He is walked on a leash at least twice a day. He knows the commands sit, drop it, come, stop it, get down, and up. He enjoys playing with squeaky, stuffed, and rope toys. His favorite game is tug. He has never been crate trained but he has a crate that he sometimes chooses to sleep in. When his family is home, he likes to follow them around. He is not bothered by most loud noises but will bark at thunder. He eats both wet and dry dog food.
Admissions Behavior: Check was stress panting throughout the intake. He allowed all handling. Since, Check cannot see so he was walking aimlessly around the room.
