SEEK PLACEMENT

A volunteer writes: All dogs are deserving of a good home, a healthy environment, a place where they can flourish and stand out with all those positive traits … And we all wish they had upbringing and so much more. But unfortunately that always is not the case, for one reason or another, these beautiful animals are subjected to an early environment that leave a scar that is hard to diminish, and sometimes harder to change. The old words, “It’s hard to teach an old dog new tricks”, is to often to true. So … With a good heart and a positive spirit, we can make that difference. Chastity is one of those very dogs, she came in as a stray and her background is all that we can see and take hold of. I noted while walking that Chastity is a dog that is oh so sweet, and willing to be part of my picture, as her walker. She only pulled some while we walked and lent herself to paying attention to my lead, she seems to be house trained, and knows exactly where to do her business. She’s got a beautiful coat, solid brown with a white tuft of hair on her chest. She does know some commands, like “Sit”, and “Paw”, and was eager to please my requests. You really have to experience her to find out how right this animal is to be brought into your life and home with your family. Wont you please come into our Center today, here in Brooklyn and meet with Chastity … It, for sure, is going to be one of the best decisions you’ve made in your life. Make that difference today.

Behavior: Experienced Home

SAFER: Chasity was brought in as a stray, and the finder stated Chasity was fearful during an initial approach, but easily warmed up and was said to be affectionate. During intake Chasity was reported to be friendly and affectionate. She gave paw and sat on command, and allowed all handling by an admissions counselor. During SAFER Chasity was very sociable and allowed the assessor to conduct each handling item without issue. Chasity did become a bit tense and could not be pushed out of the food bowl during the food test, but she did not growl or snap at the assess-a-hand. She only showed minimal interest in the toy items, and was easy to handle when chewing on the rawhide item. During the dog-dog interaction, Chasity was relaxed when approaching the helper dog, but was not playful.

Look: 2. Dog pulls out of Assessor’s hands each time without settling during three repetitions.

Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, and her tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is closed for at least a portion of the assessment item.

Tag: 1. Dog assumes play position and joins the game.

Squeeze 1 & 2: 2. Dog quickly pulls back.

Food: 3. Dog follows the dish, her tail between her legs, ears are forward. Her body is a bit stiff. Dog does not lift her head from the bowl when hand is applied to his cheek.

Toy: 1. Minimal interest in toy, dog smells, then turns away.

Rawhide: 1. Dog settles down close to chew, will relinquish rawhide to you.

Dog-dog: 2. Dog approaches helper dog with tail at spine level, body not stiff, ears relaxed, lip neutral. 

Group Behavior:

When off leash with other dogs, Chastity is playing upon entering the pen with males and females. She tends to over-correct other dogs.

3/4Update

Chastity continues to play well off leash with both males and females. She is a polite greeter upon entering the pen and attempts to engage a female in play but respects when other female is not interested in play.

3/8 Update

Chastity continues to be a soft and relaxed female when off leash with other dogs. She is respectful of calmer dogs and tolerant of dogs more eager to play. She engages in a few bouts of play with a male dog and is tolerant of his attempts to play.

3/9 Update

Chasity continues to be a polite greeter to other dogs when off leash/ She is not usually interested in engaging in play but does enjoys interacting and being with another dog exploring the yard.

3/11 Update

Chastity is tolerant of active, rough and rowdy dogs in the yard with her and briefly runs and engages in play but spends most of time sitting next to the handlers in the yard.

3/15 Update

Chastity continues to not be very interested in play with other dogs, but is tolerant in their presence. She is very interested in engaging with people.

3/16 Update

Chastity continues to be tolerant and interested in greeting other dogs but is not interested in play

3/17, 3/18 Update

Chastity continues to be tolerant of social males and females but is not interested in play.

3/19 Update

Chastity continues to be tolerant of other dogs, both males and females

3/22 Update

Chastity continues to be tolerant of both male and females, though not interested in play, is a polite greeting and does enjoy some interaction with other dogs

3/24 Update

Chastity continues to be social around other dogs but not interested in interacting below initial greetings

3/25 Update

Chastity is tolerant and respectful around other dogs and is polite when greeted

3/26 Update

Chasity continues to do well with other dogs.

3/28, 3/29 Update

Chasity continues to do well in a social group with other dogs and is social

3/30 Update

Chastity continues to be generally tolerant and respectful around other dogs and  will offer an appropriate correction when another dog gets near her face in his attempt to play.

Chastity continues to be tolerant around other dogs and is respectful during brief interactions

4/2 Update

She is tolerant, respectful and social with other dogs
