A volunteer writes: What a dog! Gorgeous, calm, gentle and so happy to simply hang out by my side as I take some notes…… Enjoying our walk to the park with my gorgeous companion, Charlie and I stop to snuggle a bit before heading into the backyard. His leash manners are good, he pulls slightly from time to time and definitely wants to play with the squirrels that are scurrying about burying their nuts for winter. Sorry Charlie! Beautifully groomed, his coat is lush and gorgeous, his tail wags, eyes sparkle and he’s ready to make new friends. Surrendered by his family as they are having a baby, we’re told that Charlie is housetrained (check), plays with balls and squeaky toys, is friendly to new people and loud noises make him nervous and want to hide. In the backyard pen he wagged his tail comfortably at a cocker spaniel in an adjoining pen, and in his first play group greeted the helper dog and then wanders off to explore the pen. Charlie showed me his ‘sit’, shakes or gives ‘high five’ with both paws and takes treats gently. When I sat again to take more notes he came to my side, sat down next to me and again, was simply happy to hang out like old friends do…..no words need be exchanged, just a comfortable silence of mutual affection. If you’re looking for a well behaved, calm and sweet dog, Charlie is the pup you want to meet. He rocked his behavior assessment indicating he’ll be a good fit in just about any home. If you’re lucky, it could be yours!
Charlie is a 6 1/2 year old neutered dog who has no prior injuries or medical problems. He was surrendered to the shelter because the owner is having a baby.
Social Life and Personality:
According to the owner he lived with a 1 year old and did not get to interact with the child so his behaviors are unknown. He was not around any dogs or cats so his behaviors are unknown. He is house trained, kept mostly indoors, and has a medium level of energy.
He has never bitten anyone or any animal before. When unfamiliar people approach the house or family member he will be friendly, approach with soft body and sniff them.
New Family Info:
He knows the command sit and is used to brisk walks on leash. He plays with balls and squeaky toys and has never been crate trained before. At home he followed owner around and was fed dry food. Loud noises will make him nervous and hide.
During intake he allowed all handling without aggression. When scanned was negative for a microchip. When touched had soft, relaxed body and when given treat took gently from hand.
