A volunteer writes: What a dog! Gorgeous, calm, gentle and so happy to simply hang out by my side as I take some notes…… Enjoying our walk to the park with my gorgeous companion, Charlie and I stop to snuggle a bit before heading into the backyard. His leash manners are good, he pulls slightly from time to time and definitely wants to play with the squirrels that are scurrying about burying their nuts for winter. Sorry Charlie! Beautifully groomed, his coat is lush and gorgeous, his tail wags, eyes sparkle and he’s ready to make new friends. Surrendered by his family as they are having a baby, we’re told that Charlie is housetrained (check), plays with balls and squeaky toys, is friendly to new people and loud noises make him nervous and want to hide. In the backyard pen he wagged his tail comfortably at a cocker spaniel in an adjoining pen, and in his first play group greeted the helper dog and then wanders off to explore the pen. Charlie showed me his ‘sit’, shakes or gives ‘high five’ with both paws and takes treats gently. When I sat again to take more notes he came to my side, sat down next to me and again, was simply happy to hang out like old friends do…..no words need be exchanged, just a comfortable silence of mutual affection. If you’re looking for a well behaved, calm and sweet dog, Charlie is the pup you want to meet. He rocked his behavior assessment indicating he’ll be a good fit in just about any home. If you’re lucky, it could be yours!
