09/17/15 19:54 Champion is an 11 month old male brown and black american pitbull terrier and german shepherd mix who is being surrendered because the owner can no longer take care of him. He has been with the family for 3 months. Champion lives with 3 adults and no other animals or small children. He is receptive to small children and is playful but is not overwhelming. He enjoys petting from his family. When visitors come to the home he is also receptive to them. When on leash walks he will be very energetic for introduction and is very aroused by the site of cats. Champion is house broken and does not usually have accidents inside. Champion has gotten bathed at the groomers and they said he was cooperative. Owner has never attempted to take food or toys from him so cannot report on guarding. Champion does mind a bear hug. He is not startled when he is awakened. If he is on the bed or couch he is easily pushed off. Champion knows the commands and go home which means he should go in his crate. Champion has balls and stuffed toys that he likes to be destructive with but he does not swallow the material. He also enjoys playing fetch. When the family is home he may be where they are but he can be independent. When home alone he is well behaved. Champion eats blue buffalo dry food sometimes mixed with wet. Upon intake Champion was receptive to introduction and loose for all handling. Counselor was able to scan for microchip (negative) collar and photograph. Champion was very insistent on leash.

Champion previously lived with 3 adults. The owner stated Champion is receptive to small children and is playful. The owner mentioned when on leash walks Champion will be very energetic for introduction and is very aroused by the site of cats. It was reported Champion is house broken and well behaved when home alone. At intake it was reported Champion was friendly and loose for all handling. During SAFER Champion came into the assessment room with loose body language and vocal, he was social towards the assessor, allowed all handling items to be conducted without issue. Champion was easily aroused with stiff body language, growls and slowly de-escalates during the tag interaction, and during the resources portion of the assessment on food and toy items Champion freezes and growls when attempting to remove the items away from him, and rawhide item he takes away with his body stiff when trying to remove the item away. Due to some behavioral concerns on tag interaction bring easily aroused with his body stiff and also resource guarding issues, the behavior department feels that placement with a rescue who can provide positive reinforcement-based behavior modification is the best option at this time. Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted. His ears are back, his tail is down, and he has a relaxed body posture. Dog allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, and his tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is likely closed for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 4. Dog gets easily aroused ears forward, body stiff, growls and slowly de-escalates. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. His eyes are averted and his ears are back. Squeeze 2: 2. Dog quickly pulls back his paw. Food: 4. Dog freezes and growls. Toy 1: 4. Dog freezes and growls. Rawhide: 3. Dog takes rawhide away, keeps a firm hold. His body is stiff. Dog-to-dog: When off leash with other dogs Champion is social and playful, engaging in running play with both males and females. When other dogs are engaging in rough play he will attempt to assert himself and offer correction.

He is sexually motivated and continues to attempt to mount after correction. 9/20 update: Champion is sexually motivated but will engage in play when solicited.
