10/13/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPNOCHILD
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Champ came in as a stray, so his past behaviors in a home are unknown. At intake it was reported Champ had loose body posture and was relaxed, he allowed all handling. During SAFER Champ came into the assessment room loose and wiggly, he was friendly and social towards the assessor, allowed all handling items to be conducted without issue. Champ joins the game during the tag interaction and jumps extremely high off the ground and during the resources portion of the assessment on food and rawhide item Champ freezes when attempting to remove his head away from the items and toy item he takes away body between the handler and the item. Due to some resource concerns the behavior department feels it’s best he can be suitable for an experience adopter with no children. 10/15/15 : Additional Notes: Champ has shown some barrier reactivity while in her kennel (i.e. lunging, growling, and hard barking). It may be because Champ is easily over stimulated in a kennel environment, but has not displayed any of these behaviors once outside of her kennel. Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted. His ears are back, his tail is down, and he has a relaxed body posture. Dog allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, and his tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is likely closed for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 1. Dog assumes play position and joins the game. Or dog indicates play with huffing, soft ‘popping’ of the body, etc. Dog jumps on Assessor once play begins. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. His eyes are averted and his ears are relaxed. Squeeze 2: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. His eyes are averted and his ears are relaxed. Food: 4. Dog freezes. Toy 1: 2. Dog takes toy away, keeps a firm hold. His body is between you and the toy, and he is loose and wiggly. No growling or stiffness. Rawhide: 4. Dog freezes. Dog-dog: When off leash with other dogs, Champ bows and barks at the gate and is pushy when soliciting play. He responds well to correction but will continue to bounce around the helper dog to solicit play.
10/07/2015 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
Champ is tolerant and engages in rough play with other playful dogs. He can become edgy when interacting with male dogs. Based on his behavior during playgroup, the Behavior Department recommends that Champ can be placed in a home with a female dog but advise against placement with a male dog at this time. Champ can be rowdy when playing so we recommend placement with a tolerant, playful dog. When off leash with other dogs, Champ greets politely and is tolerant of pushy solicitation. He engages in rough play with a playful female. 10/8 update: Champ is social and engages in rough play with other playful males and females. He can get pushy while playing. 10/9 update: Champ engages in rough play and is tolerant of pushy behavior. He may become frustrated if a dog does not engage in play when he solicits. 10/10 update: Champ engages in rough play with males and females. He offers correction for pushy behavior but may become frustrated when his corrections are ignored. 10/11 update: Champ bows and barks at the gate and is pushy when soliciting play. He responds well to correction but will continue to bounce around the helper dog to solicit play. 10/13 update: Champ engages in rough play with a playful female. He is tolerant of mouthy puppy play. 10/14 update: Champ engages briefly in play with a playful female but spends most of his time exploring his surroundings. 10/15 update: Champ is tolerant of pushy behavior and may engage in play briefly. He may become edgy when attempting to interact with a playful male.
