A volunteer writes: Hola new friend…no, not over there, down here! I know I’m a senior and a bit (ok, a lot) on the skinny side but just ask anyone and they’ll tell you that with Chaca, what you get is mucho más than what you see! I’m not one to brag but all my friends say I’m a real easy-going sweetie and that I’ve got a big heart and an even bigger spirit. Honestly, I’m so adorable that even total strangers regularly greet me with ‘que linda!’ You can pet me, kiss me, hug me or hold me and I like to socialize with everyone from small dogs to large but I’m always the chill one in the group so no boisterous play time, thanks — with looks this good you should always handle with care! Just because I nap a lot doesn’t mean I’m a couch potato either. When it comes to going for a walk I’ve still got the stamina of a youngster and these tiny legs can happily go all the way to the park and back with no trouble at all. The only thing about me that isn’t so cute is the one that most people will make a huge deal over…yes, I have a small tumor. It doesn’t stop me from doing any of the fun things other dogs do, it doesn’t make me grumpy or mean and I really don’t think it should stop anyone from giving me a chance to spend my retirement in true Chaca fashion, living and loving as large as possible. As they say, it’s not the years in your life that count, it’s the life in your years and trust me, I’m ready to make that life muy muy MUY bueno for you and me both!
09/02/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Chaca walks with a low fearful body language on leash. She was shy but friendly during the assessment – low body, but trying to stay close. Chaca was shy during handling with a fearful body language. She was distracted, focused on objects in the room rather than the handler during the tag test. Chaca was not interested in food, toys or rawhide. She was relaxed when approaching a friendly dog, but was not playful. The behavior department feels that she may do best with an experienced adopter. Chaca is somewhat fearful and needs time to warm up to the handler. We cannot be certain if behavior may be suppressed as a result of the shelter environment. Please note that behavior may change when Chaca is more comfortable and settled in a home environment. Look: 2. Dog pulls out of Assessor’s hands each time without settling during three repetitions. Sensitivity: 2. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, shy body language , mouth closed, lip long, ears likely back, may lip lick. Tag: 2. Dog is not fearful, but is unresponsive to the Assessor, and approaches the Assessor at the end of the game (may need coaxing to approach.) she is focused on stimuli other than the Assessor. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog gently pulls back her paw. Squeeze 2: 1. Dog gently pulls back her paw. Food. No interest. Toy 1. No interest. Rawhide 1. No interest. Dog – dog 1. Dog approaches the helper, soft body, tail neutral, but not playful. Helper: A1049570
