06/11/2015 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Talk about a great spirit! Abandoned, a recent mom without her pups, a skin problem and still baring not only a smile but a laughing face that meets the world with the nicest and most hopeful attitude. Yes, we have such a pooch at the Manhattan Care Center and her name is….Cauliflower….Not that many people I think, love cauliflower but I think that if they met our canine one, they would really fall under her spell… Cauliflower loves company and she lets me know when I enter her ward or if I leave her alone in a pen. Her smile is contagious. She is waiting at the door, paws hanging, looking at me with her eyes full of life and expextations. Me me me…..Do not forget about me..Do not leave me…She has a little cold but it does not affect her healthy level of energy and her appetite. She is very feminine looking, petite, attractive, a girly girl despite her very much treatable dermatitis. She is a great ball player and retrieves, no guarding involved…Cauliflower is a wonderful lap dog too and enjoys hugs and caresses. She is very sociable, happy looking, a real sunshine and made our time together a real blessing…Cauliflower is a bit shy in playgroup with other dogs and withdraws rather than tells off when they are too pushy with her. I guess a new master or family will have to work on her confidence (as well as on her skin and nutrition) to make of Cauliflower the perfect little girl, the most awesome forever companion. Cauliflower is at the Manhattan Care Center, dreaming and waiting for you..
06/08/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Cauliflower came to our center as a stray on 6/6/2015. She was very friendly and energetic upon intake, allowing all handling and showing no signs of aggression. Cauliflower pulled slightly on leash in the yard for her relief walk. She held gaze for three full seconds during Look item, soft body. Cauliflower stood still and accepted touch during Sensitivity item, low wag of her tail and ears back. She played along during Tag, jumping up at the end and chewing the leash, though stopped right away when redirected. Cauliflower wagged her tail throughout both Squeeze attempts and did not pull her paw back. She had minimal interest in food and Rawhide, sniffing before turning away. Cauliflower played with the Toy with a firm grip, maintaining loose and wiggly body. She is nervous during social time with other dogs and will not offer correction, backing away into a wall and/or crawling, at other times pacing and panting. The Behavior Team feels Cauliflower will do best with an Experienced adopter that can work with her on any anxiety issues she may be experiencing with other dogs. She may also benefit from obedience classes to learn leash manners and confidence. Look: 1. Dog holds gaze with soft eyes, soft body. He allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands.
