10/03/15 14:56 Basic information Castiel is an approximately 1 year old Jack russel terrier. He is being surrendered because the owner does not have the time or patience to train him. She took him from the previous owner and was told that he is very energetic. His last vet visit was 8/2/2015 and he has no known health issues. Socialization Around strangers, Castiel is very friendly and outgoing. He is very playful and excited around adults. He loves children but gets really excited around small babies. He loves to play with other dogs but has not been around cats. He has not bitten anyone or any other animal. Behavior The owner says that Castiel is very hyper and energetic. Since she does not have the time to play with him, he becomes restless and starts to destroy things around the house. Castiel is very anxious and does not do well alone in the house. He likes to play with her clothes and shoes. He also likes plastic bottles. He is not bothered by fireworks or thunderstorms. The owner says that recently he has been play growling when she takes his toys or treats away. When she reaches for his food bowl, he growls. He likes baths but does not tolerate nail trimmings. He pulls his paws away. For a new family to know The owner describes him as very playful, friendly, affectionate, and very energetic. He likes to run around the house and loves to play. He seeks attention all the time. He knows how to sit, stay, down, and come. He pulls very hard on the leash and likes to go on brisk walks and jogging. She fed him blue buffalo twice a day and walked him 3 times a day. Behavior during intake Castiel was very friendly and jumped up to greet staff members. He licked us and his tail wagged. He had an open mouth and was jumping around for attention. He tolerated all petting and handling-scanning(+), collaring, and photographs.

Castiel came to our center as an owner surrender citing too energetic. It is reported Castiel is friendly and outgoing to strangers, and excited/playful around adults. Owner reports he loves children and gets very excited around babies. It is reported he plays with other dogs and has not been around cats. Owner states Castiel becomes restless and destructive around the house as owner did not play with him. Castiel was friendly during intake, jumping up to greet staff members. He wagged his tail and allowed all handling. Castiel allowed his head to be cupped in assessor’s hands, lip lick. He stood still and accepted the touch during Sensitivity, body soft, mouth closed. He was distracted and unresponsive during Tag game, but escalated quickly and at end of game jumped onto assessor, mouthing with moderate pressure. He mouthed assessor’s hand during Squeeze attempts, moderate pressure, but did not pull paw back. Castiel gulped Food faster and growled at approaching assess-a-hand. He kept a firm grip, body stiff, growling during Toy item. Castiel took away Rawhide, growling. Off leash with other dogs, Castiel greets politely then wanders and explores the yard. Due to potential possessiveness with various resources, the Behavior Team feels Castiel would do best with an Experienced adopter with No Children. Look: 2. Dog’s eyes are averted, lip lick,allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, eyes are averted, and tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is closed for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 2. Dog is not fearful, but is unresponsive to the Assessor, and approaches the Assessor at the end of the game , jumps enthusiastically/mouths with moderate pressure. Squeeze 1/ 2: 3. Dog gently places her open mouth over the Assessor’s hand, light pressure. Food3. Dog gulps food, growls. Toy 4. Dog freezes and growls. Rawhide 4. Dog freezes and growls. dog-dog: When off leash with other dogs, Castiel greets politely then wanders off to explore.
