09/24/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Cash previously lived 3 adults and 2 small children. The owner stated Cash is very tolerant of small children and his family reports him to be generally playful. The owner mentioned Cash will become reactive towards cats he tends to growl and lunge at them. It was reported by the owner Cash is house broken and well behaved when home alone. At intake it was reported Cash was pacing and whining when his family left but was loose for handling. During SAFER Cash came into the assessment room calm but skittish, he was not interested with the assessor, allowed all handling items to be conducted. Cash was relaxed during the tag interaction; during the first paw squeeze Cash moves his paw away along with his body with tense body language, then flank was attempted on the second squeeze he didn’t respond. During the resources portion of the assessment Cash was easy to handle when engaged with the items. Cash can be fearful and skittish at times he avoids interaction in the care center. We cannot be certain if behavior may be suppressed as a result of the shelter environment. Please note that behavior may change when Cash is more comfortable and settled in a home environment, in addition we recommend that introductions are done slowly, and Cash be given the opportunity to interact at his own pace. The behavior department feels he can be suitable for an experience adopter with no young children and no cats in the house hold. Look: 2. Dog pulls out of Assessor’s hands each time without settling during three repetitions. Sensitivity: 2. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, his tail is between his legs, body stiff, mouth closed. Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body soft. Squeeze 1: 3. Dog is tense in body and eye, and moves his legs/body so that the Assessor is unable to hold the paw Flank squeeze 1: 1. Dog does not respond at all. Food: No interest. Toy 1: No interest. Rawhide: 1. No interest. Dog-to-dog: When off leash with other dogs Cash greets well but is more interested in exploring his surroundings.
09/23/2015 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
Cash greets well and engages in play with some dogs. He may be sexually motivated and seems to be selective when interacting with male dogs. Based on his behavior in playgroup, the Behavior Department recommends that Cash can be placed in a home with a female dog but advise against placement with a male dog without an extensive pre-adoption interaction. Cash may offer correction when play is too exuberant so we recommend he be placed with dogs who have a gentler, less energetic play style. When off leash with other dogs Cash greets well but is more interested in exploring his surroundings. 9/24 update: Cash greets politely and may briefly solicit play. He may become sexually motivated with some dogs. 9/25 update: Cash greets and is interested but maintains a stiff body throughout the interaction. He will offer correction when mounted. 9/26 update: Cash greets well and is interested when solcited but does not engage in play. He is a bit sexually motivated and will offer correction when play becomes too rough. 9/27 update: Cash is social and playful, engaging in running play with both males and females. He will offer correction when mounted. 9/30 update: Cash is social and greets other dogs politely. He attempts to solicit play and may become sexually motivated with some dogs. 10/1 update: Cash is social and greets other dogs politely. He solicits play and will engage in running play with other playful dogs. 10/2 update: Cash greets other dogs politely but may become overwhelmed by exuberant dogs and offer correction. With a calmer female, he solicits play and may engage in play briefly. 10/3 update: Cash greets politely but offers an overcorrection when a male dog attempts to play. 10/7 update: Cash greets briefly and then mostly keeps to himself.
