Carl came to us as a stray on 10/22/15. He was very interested in interacting with the handler when taken out of his kennel and walked calmly on the leash. When entering the behavior room Carl displayed this same behavior with the assessor though he was a bit shy. He allowed the assessor to conduct all tactile assessment items while maintaining soft body language. Carl did not resist being handled while eating, and was easily pushed out of the food bowl. He only showed minimal interest in the toy, but showed no interest in the rawhide on this portion of the assessment. The behavior team believes that Carl can with an adopter that has an average amount of dog experience.
Look: 1. Dog holds gaze with soft eyes, soft body. He allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Dog holds gaze for three full seconds.
Sensitivity: 1. Dog leans into the Assessor, eyes soft, soft and loose body, open mouth.
Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body soft, low and a bit fearful.
Squeeze 1: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. His eyes are averted and his ears are back.
Squeeze 2: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. His eyes are averted and his ears are back.
Food: 1. Dog lifts head and ceases eating when you reach to pull the bowl away or push him out.
Toy: 1. Minimal interest. Dog smells, licks and mouths, then walks away.
Rawhide: 1. No interest.
Dog-Dog: When off leash with other dogs, Carl is anxious but will greet the helper dog politely. He may attempt to engage in play but seems unsure.
PLAYGROUP: When off leash with other dogs, Carl is anxious but will greet the helper dog politely. He may attempt to engage in play but seems unsure. 10/24 update: Carl greets politely and may engage in gentle play briefly with a playful male. 10/29 update: Carl greets other dogs politely but becomes uncomfortable and will growl when another dog attempts to mount him.
