06/06/2015 PET PROFILE MEMO
06/06/15 15:39 Caesar was found by an expressway. He was brought here with small children. He had a loose wiggly body, open mouth, and wagging tail and jumped up on the children and on us, leaning into us while we pet him. He maintained this during handling-scan (-), collar, petting, switching leashes. He sat when asked for pictures. He also stood up on the counter and knocked things over. He was easy to encourage into a kennel.
06/10/2015 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: All energetic and playful puppy, Caesar is a gorgeous youngster looking for an active family to help him grow up. He’s puppy bouncy, jumps up for hugs, chases his tail to play and loves a good belly rub. In a lush caramel coat, a perfect weight for his size, beautifully trimmed nails and pearly white teeth, Caesar loves to wag his tail and meet everyone as we walk. And, he’s so cute and bouncy everyone wants to meet him! We snuggled together in the park, Caesar posed amazingly perfectly for photos — sometimes serious, sometimes smiling, but always perfect. Cuddle time, belly rub time, he’s fun and funny and guaranteed to keep a smile on your face. In playgroup he greets other dogs nicely, is tolerant of all, but as of this writing hasn’t engaged in all out play yet. Caesar sits for a treat which he takes nicely, and is hoping that his new family will teach him more things using positive reward based training. Active puppies aren’t for everyone, but if you’re a puppy person ready to take on an energetic, active, awesome pup — then be sure to ask for Caesar today.
06/08/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Caesar was excited but very interested in interacting with handler during assessment – jumped up, licked hands. He was loose and wiggly throughout handling and was excited at times but had soft body. He engages in play, loose body, wags tail, mouth is open and jumped up a bit once the game began. Caesar was a bit difficult to push out of the food bowl, his body was a bit stiff but tail was wagging throughout. He had no interest in toys and kept a firm grip on the rawhide with a loose, wiggly body. Caesar came to the care center as a stray; upon intake he had a loose, wiggly body and jumped up on everyone. Throughout the assessment, Caesar remained friendly toward the assessor, however, he seemed to be demonstrating some high anxiety behaviors in his kennel and when out in the backyard with staff. He has not showed any aggression but will whine, bark, pace, spin in circles, and chew on his tail when he is in and out of his kennel. We cannot be certain if behavior may be suppressed as a result of the shelter environment. Please note that behavior may change when Caesar is more comfortable and settled in a home environment. Due to his anxiety the Behavior Department feels Caesar may do best in an experienced home that will allow him the time to decompress and become comfortable at his own pace. Look: 1. Dog holds gaze with soft eyes, soft body. He allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Dog holds gaze for three full seconds. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, and his tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is likely closed for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 1. Dog assumes play position and joins the game. Or dog indicates play with huffing, soft ‘popping’ of the body, etc. Dog jumps on Assessor once play begins. Squeeze 1&2: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Food: 2. Dog follows the dish with his tail down. Dog lifts head after moderate pressure from hand to cheek, body a bit stiff. Toy 1: No interest. Rawhide: 1. Dog settles close, keeps a firm grip and is loose and wiggly. He does not place his body between you and the rawhide.
