10/10/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Bush came to us as an owner surrender on 10/08/15. He pulls strongly on the leash when taking him out of his kennel. When entering the behavior room Bush was very interested in interacting with the assessor with high energy and soft body language. He allowed the assessor the conduct all tactile assessment items without displaying any signs of aggression. He did mouth the assessor with moderate pressure during the Squeeze test, but had soft body language. Bush bit the assess-a-hand during the food bowl test and took the rawhide away with stiff body language. The behavior department recommends placement with a New Hope partner who can provide positive reinforcement-based behavior modification to address this guarding behavior and can extensively counsel potential adopters before placement into a permanent home. Look: 2. Dog pulls out of Assessor’s hands each time without settling during three repetitions. Sensitivity: 2. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, his tail is between his legs, body stiff, mouth closed, lip long, ears back, lip lick. Tag: 2. Follows at end of leash, body soft, low and fearful. Squeeze 1: 3. Dog gently places his open mouth over the Assessor’s hand applying moderate pressure. Squeeze 2: 3. Dog gently places his open mouth over the Assessor’s hand applying moderate pressure. Food: 5. Dog tries to bite. Toy: 1. Minimal interest. Dog smells, licks and mouths, then turns away. Rawhide: 3. Dog takes rawhide away, keeps a firm hold. His body is stiff. Dog-Dog: When off leash with other dogs, Bush greets politely and is a bit sexually motivated.
