09/26/2015 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: I LOVE THIS FACE! Seriously-it’s amazing! And, don’t tell my Aunt Lotte, but he reminds me of her – that frumpy face, the chin whiskers….and much cuter on him of course! His square-ish face and over bite suggests some boxer in his lineage – his amazing ears frame that face to perfection. Burton is being fed an extra meal daily as he’s far too thin and as I toss him some treats he shows what a rock star he is by catching every one on the fly. Burton seems housetrained, and interestingly enough he didn’t potty in the backyard pen where we were first, but after playing we went onto the street and that’s the very first thing he did. He’s a great ball player, sitting waiting for the throw, keeping his eye on the ball and bounding after it once tossed. Bringing it back for another throw he waits for it again, and repeat, repeat, repeat. Burton has nice leash manners on the street, is alert, observant and friendly to all as we walk. His face attracts the attention of all as he wags his tail in friendship to everyone we pass. Energetic, playful and fun, Burton is looking for a new place to call home…..home is where nutritious and plentiful food is available every day, and of course, lots of love. Meet Mr. Frumpy Face today and turn that face into a smile!
09/26/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Burton pulls hard on the leash. He was excited but very interested in interacting with handler during assessment – jumped up. Burton was excited during some of the handling items, but had soft body language. He was distracted, focused on objects in the room rather than the handler during the tag test. Burton was a bit difficult to push out of the food bowl, but had soft body language. He was not interested in toys but took the rawhide away with a soft body language. Burton appears to be a high-energy dog that will likely do best with an adopter prepared to provide mental and physical stimulation and appropriate outlets for his energy. The behavior department feels that he can go to an experienced home. Look: 3. Dog jumps on the Assessor, consistently rubs his shoulder on the Assessor, and will not allow Assessor to conduct the assessment. Sensitivity: 2. Dog displays high energy and movement, but it is directed toward getting closer to the Assessor. His body is soft, likely panting, may jump up between attempts to lick Assessor. Tag: 2. Dog is not fearful, but is unresponsive to the Assessor, and approaches the Assessor at the end of the game (may need coaxing to approach.) He is focused on stimuli other than the Assessor. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. Squeeze2: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. Food: 2. Dog follows the dish with his tail down, body likely a bit stiff. Dog lifts head after a bit of pressure from hand to cheek. Toy: 1. No interest. Rawhide: 1. Dog settles close, keeps a firm grip and is loose and wiggly. He does not place his body between you and the rawhide. When off leash with other dogs Burton greets and will continue to approach the helper dog to sniff, but he is more interested in exploring his surroundings. 9/25 update: Burton greets politely and is interested in interaction.
09/24/2015 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION
