A volunteer writes:
Introducing Bullwinkle D. Pitbull, the biggest mush around! He is one of those dogs that arrives as a stray and leaves you wondering how no one is looking for him! He is filled out and I’m sure has “mighty moose muscle,” but never flexes them while walking – he has perfect leash manners. He knows “sit” and takes treats very softly, and really seems “soft” in every other way! Though at first he was a little scared of them, he was a very good sport when I adorned his big head with antlers. Afterwards, I gave him permission to do what he wanted with them, but he only made a dainty tear in them and then uttered the most charming, raspy, howly bark. Bullwinkle would much rather spend his time cuddling than being dressed up. He loves to be pet, gives hugs, and will nuzzle against you while making soft eye contact. We haven’t encountered any squirrels, so I can’t say if he’s ready for his very own Rocky, but Bullwinkle does seem friendly and appropriate when we’ve seen other dogs. He’s very easy-going, sweet, and even seems housetrained! Please come meet Bullwinkle at Brooklyn ACC, I’m sure he’s something you’ll really like!

Upon intake Bullwinkle was reported to be calm, and appeared to enjoy petting. He was also reported to be friendly and tolerant of all handling during his medical exam. During SAFER Bullwinkle was sociable towards the assessor but was occasionally distracted and more interested in his surroundings. He allowed the assessor to conduct each item without issue, and only needed a bit of pressure to his cheek to be pushed out of the food bowl during the food test. He was not interested in the toy items, and was easy to handle when chewing on the rawhide.
Look: 2. Dog pulls out of Assessor’s hands each time without settling during three repetitions.
Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, and his tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is closed for at least a portion of the assessment item.
Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body soft and a bit distracted.
Squeeze 1: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw.
Squeeze 2:1. Dog gently pulls back his paw.
Food: 2. Dog follows the dish with his tail down, body soft. Dog lifts head after a bit of pressure from hand to cheek.
Toy 1: No interest.
Rawhide: 1. Dog settles down close to chew, will relinquish rawhide to you.
Dog-dog: when off leash with a female dog he was sexually motivated but responded well to correction, engages in some play but the play progressed to mounting
