SAFER: AVERAGE HOME
Buford came to us as a stray on 4/21/15 so we don’t have any behavior information prior to what is being seen in the shelter. Buford was very interested in exploring his environment when entering the behavior room. He allowed the assessor to conduct all tactile assessment items without displaying any signs of aggression. Buford only showed minimal interest in the food, but showed no interest in the toy or rawhide items. The behavior department believes that Buford can go to an average home.
Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted. His ears are back, his tail is down, and he has a relaxed body posture. Dog allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands.
Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, and his tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is closed for a portion of the assessment item.
Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body soft, low and a bit fearful.
Squeeze 1: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. His eyes are averted and his ears are back.
Squeeze 2: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. His eyes are averted and his ears are back.
Food: 1. Minimal interest. Dog smells, licks and mouths, then turns away.
Toy 1: No interest.
Rawhide: 1. No interest.
Dog-Dog: When off leash with other dogs, Buford is initially nervous with a tucked tail. He warms up and raises his tail and wants to interact with the other dog. He is nervous and hesitant when interacting

4/23 Update

4/25 update:
Buford may attempt to engage in play. He will take correction but may continue to come back and continue to be a little pushy.
