PROFILE :
Buddy is a 7 year old altered Shih Tzu that was bought from a breeder as a puppy and is brought surrendered because the owner does not have time for Buddy anymore. Buddy has seen the vet on an annual basis. Buddy has been scratches hos back a lot lately and has started to lose his fur.
Buddy has lived with 2 children that were 6 and 12 years old. Buddy is relaxed, tolerant, and exuberant during play with the children. Buddy has not been socialized with other dogs or cats to know with behavior with or around them. His owner describes him as playful, confident, excitable, affectionate, mellow, and friendly.
Buddy is not bothered when someone touches or takes away his food bowl when he is eating. H is friendly when someone takes a toy from him and when they brushed his fur. He barks at people that come to the home but is friendly when they come inside. Buddy may snap at a stranger if they go to pet him before he is ready. He was brought to the groomers for baths and haircuts so it is unknown how he behaves for them.
Buddy knows the commands come and stop. He is walked on a leash twice a day and let outside to play in the yard. Even though Buddy is taken outside regularly he is still not house broken. He likes to play fetch with balls and squeaky toys. He is not bothered but loud noises such as, thunder or fireworks. He is fed Purina dry dog food twice a day
During the admissions process, Buddy maintained a soft body. He was often jumping up to sit in the chair. He would approach the counselor, sniff her hands, and wag his tail. When the counselor went slowly to pet Buddy when sitting on a chair he lifted his lip and slowly growled but stopped. After, he jumped down and walked around the room approaching the counselor and Buddy allowed the counselor to pet and collar him.
Group Behavior:
When off leash with other dogs, Buddy is tolerant of interaction and may greet the other dogs briefly.
