06/27/2015 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: A nice way to end my day…..an easy walk to the park with a dog who is housetrained (as advised by his former owner), and has great leash manners. Of course, the fact that he’s gorgeous and easy was helpful too! He gives stand up hugs and kisses, ignored people walking by, and was focused when we stopped to take some pictures. Off leash in the backyard he played with a plush toy, shaking it all around until lying down froggy style to dismember it. RIP plush toy :).Posing for more pictures he does that head tilt thing I love, leans in for petting and gives me more kisses. Laying down froggy style again, I pet him all over and give his cute little butt a gentle pinch to which his response is a tail wag. Surrendered by his family due to allergies, we’re told he knows ‘sit’, and ‘give paw’, is housetrained, likes to jump and play bite, loves to play tug, loves to go for a run or a jog, is playful and affectionate and should be crated when left home alone. It’s unclear whether he’s ever been crate trained. Calm and gentle during our time together, Bubba is looking for an active family who will provide all the exercise and mental stimulation he needs, along with all the cuddles and kisses possible. He’s looking for an experienced person to welcome him home.
06/23/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Bubba walks calmly on leash. He was sociable toward the handler during the assessment – soft body. He was calm and relaxed during handling. Bubba was distracted, focused on objects in the room rather than the handler during the tag test. He was not interested in food, toys or rawhide. Bubba was surrender to us. According to his previous owner Bubba is relaxed towards most strangers, owner has stated around a large group of unfamiliar people in an unfamiliar place he may growl or bark. Bubba plays somewhat rough with adults. He likes to jump up & play bite. Bubba has been exposed to a 9 yrs old & will at times play bite & be somewhat rough. Bubba would do best in a home with no small children. Bubba has not lived with cat, dogs or other small animals. Bubba barks & growls at other dogs & cats. Bubba did not show any concern during the behavior assessment but because of his owner profile the behavior department feels that she may do best with an experienced adopter who can follow on this behavior. We also recommend a home without young children; older children can be considered pending interaction. Look: 2. Dog pulls out of Assessor’s hands each time without settling during three repetitions. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, and his tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is likely closed for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 2. Dog is not fearful, but is unresponsive to the Assessor, and approaches the Assessor at the end of the game (may need coaxing to approach.) He is focused on stimuli other than the Assessor. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Squeeze 2: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Food: 1. No interest. Toy: 1. No interest. Rawhide: 1. No interest.
