09/05/2015 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Better get your sunglasses ready! Browny’s coat gleams with good care, and when in the sunlight it’s almost like you can see every strand of fur….he’s gorgeous! Long limbed, elegant…his fold over ears framing sweet and soulful eyes that make lovely eye contact. Surrendered by his family of adults and four children ranging in age from 5-15 as they are moving where he’s not welcome, he’s understandably confused as they’ve always been his home. He also grew up with a cat with whom he was respectful. We’re told that he’s “very housetrained”, loves a bath and to be brushed, played gently and respectfully with everyone, is very active, is crate trained with the door open at all times, and can be nervous around strangers but warms up with no issue. We’re all strangers here, and Browny is clearly feeling his way in this new place of loud noises and different smells. He’s easy on the leash, sniffing all the new scents in our path. He’s so stunning that people stopped to compliment him, and ask about him. In the backyard pen he greets other dogs through the gate with a happy tail wag and play bowed to one. He comes when called, and while not ready to be affectionate with me yet, he accepted all petting and sweet talk. A proven family dog, Browny is hoping to find a new family quickly. He’s got it all – except a home. Come meet him today!
09/04/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Browny pulls a bit on the leash. He was excited but very interested in interacting with handler during assessment – jumped up. Browny was excited during some of the handling items, but had soft body language. He was distracted, focused on objects in the room rather than the handler during the tag test. Browny did not resist being handled while eating, and was easily pushed out of the food bowl. He took the toy and the rawhide with a soft body language. Browny rushed in quickly during the dog-dog test, but showed no aggression. Browny is an active dog he need a significant amount of exercise and mental stimulation. The behavior department feels that he can go to an experienced home. Browny appears to be a high-energy dog that will likely do best with an adopter prepared to provide mental and physical stimulation and appropriate outlets for his energy. Look: 3. Dog jumps on the Assessor, consistently rubs his shoulder on the Assessor, and will not allow Assessor to conduct the assessment. Sensitivity: 2.
