12/15/2015 PET PROFILE MEMO
12/15/15 21:17 Brodus had left for a foster home earlier in the evening, but was overstimulated by the other cats and dogs at the foster home. Due to this behavior he was brought back to the shelter. Brodus was easy to handle upon intake, wagging his tail and licking the ACO.
12/30/2015 WEB MEMO
His Foster writes: Out of the many dogs I have fostered, Brodus was definitely one of my favorites. He is very sweet towards people and always very playful. At home, he would always want to be by your side either laying on the floor next to you or cuddling up to you on the couch. He would greet me at the door with tail wagging and very happy to see anyone come home. He is housebroken and can follow basic commands. When he was at work with me, he would jump in the Fire Chief’s car and go on calls with me. He loves to play fetch and will give you his paw for a treat which he takes very gently. I absolutely loved having him and think he is a great companion.
12/29/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Since in our care our Brodus has displayed very concerning behavior when around other dogs. He has been observed growling, lunging, and trying to bite other dogs that go past him in his kennel and on the street. Brodus does have a previous bite history of biting another dog with seemingly little provocation that came near him while on a walk on the street. Brodus has also been fostered before and some of the fosters stated that he is very difficult to control on leash and has lunged, growled, and snapped at people as well when on walks and seems to especially do this towards children. Brodus pulls strongly on the leash when walking to the behavior room. He seemed very interested in exploring the behavior room and was mildly interested in interacting with the assessor. He was a bit tense during some of the handling items but allowed the assessor to complete them all without displaying any signs of aggression. During the tag interaction Brodus had a sudden burst of energy and played roughly for the fraction of time he was engaged, but calmed quickly. Due to all available behavior information the behavior department believes that Brodus be placed with a NH partner who can provide any necessary behavior modification to address his dog-dog social skills before placement into a permanent home. Look: 2. Dog’s eyes are averted. His body posture is a bit tense; his tail is low and not moving. He allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 2. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, his tail is between his legs, body stiff, mouth closed, lip long, ears back, lip lick. Tag: 2. Dog assumes play position and joins the game. He indicates play with huffing, soft ‘popping’ of the body, etc. Dog quickly becomes a bit over aroused jumping strongly, but calms quickly. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. His eyes are averted and his ears are relaxed. Squeeze 2: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. His eyes are averted and his ears are relaxed. Toy 1: 1. Dog settles close, keeps a firm grip and is loose and wiggly. He does not place his body between you and the toy.
12/30/2015 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
It has been observed while in our care that Brodus displays reactive behaviors passing dogs on leash or in kennel. When being placed into the yard, if he is not immediately introduced he becomes aroused, barking and biting at the bars of the gate. However, once in a pen, he displays playful behaviors with female dogs. He engages in rough running play, that often becomes mouthy. He may become uncomfortable and edgy when interacting with another male. Based on his behavior in the care center, the Behavior Department recommends that Brodus can go to a home with a female dog but advise against placement with a male dog at this time. A pre-adoption interaction and thorough consultation is highly recommended. When off leash with other dogs, Brodus greets politely and attempts to solicit play. He may try to mount. 10/7 update: Brodus greets briefly but is very sexually motivated and continues to persist with the behavior even after corrected. 10/8 update: Brodus greets politely, is sexually motivated and does not engage in play when solicited. 10/9 update: Brodus greets poltiely and is a bit sexually motivated. He engages in play briefly when solicited but may become edgy when playing with a more energetic male. 10/10 update: Brodus greets politely but may be sexually motivated with some dogs. He may engage in play but can get mouthy when playing. He becomes uncomfortable and may growl and snap when interacting with another male dog. 10/11 update: Brodus is slightly sexually motivated, following the female around the yard. 10/13 update: Brodus greets briefly, is mostly sexually motivated but takes correction. 10/14 update: Brodus greets politely and may become sexually motivated but is not pushy. 10/15, 10/16 update: Brodus greets politely and is sexually motivated but takes correction well. 11/5 update: Brodus solicits and engages in rough play with a social female. 11/6 update: Brodus engages in mouthy rough play with a solicitous female. He may try to mount but will continue playing if solicited. 11/7 thru 11/19: Brodus wrestles and runs throughout the yard while engaging in play with playful female dogs. 12/30: Brodus engages in running, wrestling play with a playful female dog. He becomes frustrated greeting a second female dog through a barrier and becomes aroused and pushy when soliciting once she enters the pen.
