09/10/2015 PET PROFILE MEMO
09/10/15 14:34hrs Brockton appeared very excited; he had a loose body, wagging tail and was tugging on his leash to explore every area of the Admissions Office. When the muzzle he was found with, was removed he remained excited and allowed touching. He was collared, scanned for a microchip (negative) and photographed without displaying any negative behavior.
09/12/2015 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Barking in his kennel to get my attention worked and Brockton was my next walk. Peeing enough to raise the Hudson River by inches, he seems very housetrained which made it clear why he was trying to get my attention. His leash manners are lovely, he’s a good weight for his size, and didn’t mind being tethered for photos. Off leash in a pen he sniffs around, exploring his new area, coming over to me for an occasional hello and then back to exploring. A staff person joined us in the pen and Brockton gave her a gentle tail wag and continued his explorations. He’s calm and gentle, and like many men may have “selective hearing” as he didn’t respond to my voice :). He’s friendly and low key, enjoying his own time at his own pace. This handsome fellow is hoping to meet his new family quickly.
09/12/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Brockton pulls a bit on the leash. He was sociable toward the handler during the assessment – soft body. He was calm and relaxed during handling. Brockton played tug-of-war with the leash during tag interaction. He showed some concerning behavior during the food bowl test – stiffening and freezes, but did not snap at or bite the assess-a-hand. Brockton was not interested in toys or rawhide. He approaches the helper dog with his tail at spine level, body not stiff, ears relaxed, lip long. Brockton may require positive reinforcement behavior modification to address the potential for food guarding behavior in a home. The behavior department feels that he would do best if placed with a New Hope partner who can follow up on this behavior in a more stable environment and can provide any necessary behavior modification before placement into a permanent home. Look: 1. Dog holds gaze with soft eyes, soft body. He allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Dog holds gaze for three full seconds. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, and his tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is likely closed for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 3. Dog responds with his tail high, ears forward, mouth likely closed for at least half of the assessment item, body stiff and body checks the Assessor. Dog is often focused on other stimuli in the room. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Squeeze 2: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Food: 4. Dog freezes Toy: 1. No interest. Rawhide: 1.
