06/25/2011 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Brendon is a wonderfully happy little puppy that sat down in his kennel as soon as he saw me put my key in the padlock. There he sat, quietly watching me and occaisionally licking his chops. When he got out of shelter, Brendon started wagging his VERY LONG tail enthusiastically and doing a happy little trot down the street. Brendan has a white stripe up the middle of his nose as well as one white paw and a bright shock of white on his chest to offset his bright orange coat. He’s still a puppy (in age and at heart) and absolutely LOVES affection of any kind. He was very excited to get a hug and wanted to give me a hug right back. You can find Brendon in the Manhattan shelter today — come say hello!
09/22/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Brendon came in as a stray, so his past behaviors in a home are unknown. During SAFER Brendon came into the assessment room loose and wiggly, he was friendly and attention seeking towards the assessor, not all handling items were able to be conducted as Brendon tried to bite the assessor on the tag interaction. During the resources portion of the assessment on food item he allowed the food bowl to be removed away when the hand was place against his cheek, toy and rawhide items he takes away body between the handler and the item. In light of this behavior we feel that placement with a rescue who can provide positive reinforcement-based behavior modification is the best option at this time. Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted. His ears are back, his tail is down, and he has a relaxed body posture. Dog allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 1. Dog leans into the Assessor, eyes soft, soft and loose body, open mouth. Tag: 5. Dog growls or tries to bite. Food: 1. Dog calmly allows the food to be moved, follows the dish, but does not interfere with the dish’s movement. Dog’s body is soft and loose, eyes soft, tail neutral. He lifts his head when hand is pushed against his cheek. Toy 1: 2. Dog takes toy away, keeps a firm hold. His body is between you and the toy, and he is loose and wiggly. No growling or stiffness. Rawhide: 2. Dog takes toy away, keeps a firm hold. His body is between you and the toy or rawhide, and he is loose and wiggly. No growling or stiffness. Dog-to-dog: When off leash with other dogs, Brendon is sexually motivated and will escalate when correction is offered.
