11/28/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Boyd came to us as a stray on 11/19/15. He was picked up with another dog from our field department where it was reported by a neighbor that fed the dogs that they did fight and bite each other. We have very little information of how this bite occurred but according to the neighbor the dogs began to become aggressive towards one another when the neighbor attempted to feed them. This could be a response to limited resources available at that time, or reactivity towards other dogs. Boyd was very sociable and interested in interacting with the assessor when entering the behavior room. He allowed the assessor to conduct all tactile assessment items while maintaining soft body language. Boyd only displayed minimal interest in the toy on this portion of the assessment. When on an on leash dog interaction Boyd rush in with stiff body language toward the other dog but did not display any signs of aggression. In addition, when placing Boyd back into his kennel he seemed to become very reactive towards dogs in their own kennels. The behavior department believes after all information considered that Boyd would do best in an Experienced home with no other dogs. Look: 1. Dog holds gaze with soft eyes, soft body. He allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Dog holds gaze for three full seconds. Sensitivity: 1. Dog leans into the Assessor, eyes soft, soft and loose body, and open mouth. Tag: 2. Dog is not fearful, but is unresponsive to the Assessor, and approaches the Assessor at the end of the game (needs coaxing to approach.) He is focused on stimuli other than the Assessor. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. His eyes are averted and his ears are relaxed. Squeeze 2: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. His eyes are averted and his ears are back. Toy: 1. Minimal interest. Dog smells, licks and mouths, then turns away. Dog-dog: 3. Dog approaches the helper dog by rushing in with his tail high, stiff body, head tall, and ears erect.
