06/30/2015 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: I was so into snuggling with Bordeaux that I forgot to get some nice pictures of her! She’s an awesome dog; quiet in her kennel all day, waiting her turn to go out. She sat, paws crossed, watching all the activity unfold in front of her… waiting. Happily wagging her tail when I unlatched her door she went potty as soon as we were outside. She’s such a relaxing walk I can take the time to admire her gleaming coat, nice weight and smiling face. Her tail wags when I talk to her, and as soon as I touch her it wags madly — so cute! She’s calm and gentle, happy for any attention, affectionately draping herself over my lap and giving me kisses. We met a small Chihuahua on our walk and she was polite as he introduced himself, and in group play with dogs she is social, good with both males and females and offers appropriate correction if needed. In other words — she’s a rockstar!! Like the wine after which she was named, Bordeaux is to be savored and appreciated, and trust me, you will! Meet our snuggle girl today, invite her into your lap and be prepared to be charmed! Another volunteer writes: Bordeaux is a snuggler extraordinaire, gentle and affectionate and so polite she places a paw on my knee when she wants to request petting! She knows to come when called, sits on command and sniffs my treats ever so softly before rejecting them and her amiable nature is a perfect fit when it comes to doggie socializing. All this and she’s absolutely gorgeous too! Bordeaux is a practically perfect pet just waiting for the perfect home she deserves — meet her once and love her forever! Still another volunteer writes: There is no better sound to hear in the shelter than the sound of a tail banging against the metal wall like a drum of happiness when you walk into the kennel. That was this love bug Bordeaux, how could anyone resist this mush of a girl. You just want to gather her up and love her she is so full of happiness.
06/25/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Bordeaux came to our center as a stray so behaviors in the home are unknown. She was very energetic and curious upon intake, wiggly body and affectionate. She pulled heavily on leash during her relief walk. Bordeaux held gaze for three full seconds for Look item. She leaned in and wagged her tail during Sensitivity, body soft. Bordeaux followed at the end of the leash during Tag game, body soft, tail wagging. She did not pull her paw back on both Squeeze attempts, tail wagging. Bordeaux required a moderate amount of pressure to lift her head out of the Food bowl, body a bit stiff. She had no interest in Toy. She took Rawhide away, stiff body. During social time, Bordeaux is stiff when interacting and offers appropriate corrections. Due to potential possessive behaviors regarding Food and Rawhide, the Behavior Team feels Bordeaux would do best with an Experienced adopter with no young children. She may benefit from obedience classes to learn leash manners as well as the command ‘drop it’ and trade up games. Look: 1. Dog holds gaze with soft eyes, soft body. She allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Dog holds gaze for three full seconds. Sensitivity: 1. Dog leans into the Assessor, eyes soft, soft and loose body, open mouth. Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body soft. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. Her eyes are averted and her ears are relaxed or back. Food 2. Dog follows the dish with her tail down, body likely a bit stiff. Dog lifts head after a bit of pressure from hand to cheek. Toy 1. No interest. Rawhide 2. Dog takes rawhide away, keeps a firm hold. Her body is a bit stiff.
