05/09/2015 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: “Bonnie” – a Scottish name meaning “pretty, charming, beautiful”, and boy oh boy is that right! She’s gorgeous, she’s charming, she’s playful, she’s fun, she’s affectionate and more!! Tail waggy in her kennel and letting me know she needed a walk, Miss Bonnie is leashed easily and out we go. Pulling on the leash to find that perfect place to go potty, once she does (and looks up at me for approval), she walks nicely on leash. Early morning in the park and many dogs were getting their first walks of the day and Bonnie greeted all with a happy wag of her tail hoping for a play date. Posing for some pictures, I get a big smile, she sits before I ask and, of course, gets a reward treat which she takes gently from my fingers. A group of kids passed us kicking a ball and Bonnie watched, her tail wagging as they went. So in the backyard a ball came into play, Bonnie happily giving chase and then hopping up on the bench with it and giving me another big smile. Gorgeously groomed, the perfect weight for her size, playful and happy, and even described as “bouncy” during her intake exam, Bonnie is looking for an active family with plenty of time to play and exercise with her. Her pretty freckled nose and sweet disposition remind me of ‘the girl next door’ – that friendly girl we all seek out to play with because she’s always up for whatever we want to do. Miss Bonnie is waiting to find her playmate, her soul mate…..ask to meet her today!
05/09/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Bonnie pulls hard on leash. She was excited but very interested in interacting with handler during assessment – jumped up, mouthy (moderate). She was excited and mouthy during some of the handling items, but had soft body language. Bonnie was distracted, focused on objects in the room rather than the handler during the tag test. She was a bit difficult to push out of the food bowl, but had soft body language. Bonnie took the toy and rawhide away but had soft body language. Bonnie rushed in quickly during the dog-dog test, but showed no aggression. Bonnieis a young, active dog who will likely need a significant amount of exercise and mental stimulation. Due to her energy level and tendency to be mouthy, we recommend an experienced adopter who can provide her with guidance on interacting with humans. We also recommend a home without very young children (toddler age); older children can be considered pending interaction. Look: 3. Dog jumps on the Assessor, consistently rubs his shoulder on the Assessor, and will not allow Assessor to conduct the assessment. Sensitivity: 2. Dog displays high energy and movement, but it is directed toward getting closer to the Assessor. Her body is soft, likely panting, may jump up between attempts to lick Assessor. Tag: 2. Dog is not fearful, but is unresponsive to the Assessor, and approaches the Assessor at the end of the game (may need coaxing to approach.) She is focused on stimuli other than the Assessor. Squeeze 1: 2. Dog gently places her open mouth over the Assessor’s hand without applying pressure. Squeeze 2: 2. Dog gently places her open mouth over the Assessor’s hand without applying pressure. Food 2. Dog follows the dish with her tail down, body likely a bit stiff. Dog lifts head after a bit of pressure from hand to cheek. Toy 1. Dog settles close, keeps a firm grip and is loose and wiggly. She does not place her body between you and the toy. Rawhide 1. Dog settles close, keeps a firm grip and is loose and wiggly. she does not place her body between you and the rawhide. Dog – dog 2. Dog approaches the helper dog by rushing in with her tail at spine level, body not stiff, ears relaxed, and lip long or neutral. Helper: A1034403
