10/08/2015 PET PROFILE MEMO
10/08/15 11:10 BASIC INFORMATION Blue is a 2 year old small American Staffordshire Terrier. Blue was given to his prior owner by a friend about 6 months ago because he could no longer care for him. Blue’s owner unfortunatley has a newborn within his home who has been diagnosed by a doctor as allergic to dogs. He has made the difficult decision to surrender Blue becuase he does not want to risk the health of his daughter. SOCIAL LIFE & PERSONALITY Blue’s owner stated that he is a playful and affectionate medium activity dog. He lived with 2 small children in his home and played gently with them. He allowed the 6 year old to pet him and play with them. He was the only pet in the house but interacted well with dogs outside. When he noticed another dog, he would attempt to approach them and sniff them. He was accustomed to going to dog parks and interacting with other dogs. BEHAVIOR Blue tolerated being bathed and brushed. He was afraid of having his nails trimmed. He is a little weary of strangers approaching his owner and home. Client stated he would growl at men at times and tends to be more comfortable around women. He would approach and attempt to jump onto strangers and visitors to his home. When he is left alone, he starts to whine at the door for his owner but remains calm in the home. He is house trained and used to being walked 2 to 3 times a day. He does not pull on the leash and allowed the 6 year old daughter to take control of his leash. FOR A NEW FAMILY TO KNOW Blue is a playful and affectionate dog when you get to know him. He enjoys playing with squeaky and stuffed toys.. He knows the commands “sit down and come.” He follows his owner around the home and will lay his head on his owner’s lap when he wants to be affectionate. Blue eats chicken flavored Pedigree brand dry food. DURING INTAKE Upon intake Blue seemed very calm. As soon as his owner left, admissions counselors were unable to touch or handle him. He low growled, pursed his top lip, and side eyed anyone who looked at him. Blue had to be collared and scanned for a microchip by his owner (result negative).

10/10/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Blue came to us as an owner surrender on 10/08/15. It was reported by the owner that Blue has lived with 2 small children and played with them gently. The owner stated Blue would growl at men at times and tends to be more comfortable around women. Blue was nervous when entering the behavior room, but was interested in interacting with the assessor. He allowed the assessor to conduct most tactile assessment items without displaying any signs of aggression. He had fearful and tense body language on the tag item and was unresponsive to the assessor during this item. When the assessor went to adjust Blue’s collar for the squeeze test Blue growled at the assessor and the handling portion was discontinued. He showed some concerning behavior during the food bowl test – stiffening and growling, but did not snap at or bite the assess-a-hand. He took the rawhide away with stiff body language, and only displayed minimal interest in the toy on this portion of the assessment. Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted. His ears are back, his tail is down, and he has a relaxed body posture. Dog allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, and his tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is closed for a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 2. Dog is fearful but unresponsive when touched. Approaches the Assessor when the game ends. Squeeze 1: 4. Dog growls. Food: 4. Dog freezes and growls. Toy: 1. Minimal interest. Dog smells, licks and mouths, then turns away. Rawhide: 3. Dog takes rawhide away, keeps a firm hold. His body is stiff. When off leash with other dogs, Blue greets the other dog briefly, is sexually motivated and continues to attempt to mount after correction.
