04/22/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Blue pulls a bit on leash. He was sociable toward the handler during the assessment – soft body. He was calm and relaxed during handling. Blue was distracted, focused on objects in the room rather than the handler during the tag test. He was a bit difficult to push out of the food bowl, but had soft body language. Blue was not interested in toys but took the rawhide away but had soft body language. He approaches the helper dog with his tail at spine level, body not stiff, lip long. The behavior department feels that he may do best with an experienced adopter who can follow up on this behavior in a more stable environment. Look: 2. Dog pulls out of Assessor’s hands each time without settling during three repetitions. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, and his tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is likely closed for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 2. Dog is not fearful, but is unresponsive to the Assessor, and approaches the Assessor at the end of the game (may need coaxing to approach.) He is focused on stimuli other than the Assessor. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Squeeze 2: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Food: 2. Dog follows the dish with his tail down, body likely a bit stiff. Dog lifts head after a bit of pressure from hand to cheek. Toy 1. No interest. Rawhide: 1. Dog settles close, keeps a firm grip and is loose and wiggly. A volunteer writes:
Blue is anything but and his perky ears match his happy personality to a T! Fun, friendly and open to love, he’s always keen to make new friends and happily hops up beside me on a bench to enjoy some snuggles and offer kisses in return. While he tends to ‘stalk’ other dogs from a distance, once face-to-face he’s all about the excited play bows and tail wags and it’s so cute to see him and a stocky little girlfriend wiggling their respective butts in the air on either side of the fence. Blue has clearly had some training as he comes when called, sits on command and mouths treats extra gently from my hand and once in harness he’s a good walker too, pulling slightly but stopping often to sniff and take care of his business as we stroll down the street. One of my favorite childhood stories was ‘The Velveteen Rabbit’ and if, like me, you’ve always wanted a real live version of that soft, sweet and endlessly loyal companion then Blue is here to make your dreams (and his) come true. Please step up for him today!
