12/14/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Bleu is extremely nervous and fearful in the shelter environment. He is exhibiting behaviors such as hard barking and growling with a tucked tail when his kennel is approached. Outside of his kennel while in playgroup and on walks Bleu is mildly timid around other dogs but is very social with the human handlers. Due to his behavior in his kennel the Behavior Department does not feel that he is a suitable candidate for the adoptions room. Bleu will still be available for public adoption but we recommend placement be sought as soon as possible for him. SAFER 12/09: Bleu previously lived with adults and been around children and teenagers. The owner stated Bleu can be somewhat rough with children. The owner mentioned Bleu is fearful and reactive towards other dog’s, he will growl, bark and lunge at them if he see them in sight. It was reported by the owner Bleu is house trained, has a high activity level and well behaved when home alone. The owner describes Bleu as playful, confident, excitable, affectionate, shy, fearful and independent. The owner stated if Bleu feels threaten by people he would growl and lunge but never bitten anyone. At intake it was reported Bleu was tense with his tailed tucked, all handling was done by the owner. During SAFER Bleu came into the assessment room nervous and tense with wale eyes, he was a bit social as he warmed up to the assessor with a slow approach, allowed all handling items to be conducted without issue. Bleu joins the game during the tag interaction, and during the resources portion of the assessment Bleu was easy to handle when engaged with the items. Bleu is very fearful he does avoid interaction at first with the handler but warms up as time go by. Due to some concerns with Bleu very fearful and can be rough around children; the behavior department feels he can be suitable for an experience adopter with no young children. Look: 2. Dog’s eyes are averted. His body posture is tense and fearful; his tail is low and not moving. He allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 2. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, his tail is between his legs, body tense, mouth closed. Tag: 1. Dog assumes play position and joins the game. Or dog indicates play with huffing, soft ‘popping’ of the body, etc. Dog jumps on Assessor once play begins. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. His eyes are averted and his ears are back.
12/05/2015 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
Bleu greets most females politely and may solicit play. He became uncomfortable when greeting a larger female. Based on his behavior during playgroup, the Behavior Department recommends that Bleu can go to a home with a male or female dog but we recommend that a pre-adoption interaction be required due to his potential to be dog selective. When off leash with other dogs, Bleu is a bit nervous but greets the other dogs politely. He seems interested but does not actually engage in play. 12/7 update: Bleu greets the helper dog with a stiff posture and up on his tip-toes. Although he is mostly sexually motivated, he does engage in brief bouncy play but ends each bout with a mount. 12/8 update: Bleu greets politely and is bouncy when soliciting play. He engages in brief bouts of play and is much less sexually motvated. 12/9 update: Bleu greets politely and is respectful of a more nervous dog. 12/10 update: Bleu greets politely and is a bit bouncy when soliciting play. He may become sexually motivated but takes correction well. When greeting a larger female at the gate, he low growls so he is not introduced. 12/12 update: Bleu greets the other dog politely and is interested but does not engage in play.
