05/09/2015 PET PROFILE MEMO
Bleu is a 10mth old male APBT who was given to the owner as a gift from a friend 8mths ago. Bleu is being surrendered due to the owner moving to where pets aren’t allowed. Bleu has no known health issues or injuries and was last seen at a vet 5mths ago. Bleu is friendly/outgoing to all he meets. His play style of being gentle (at times), exuberant, somewhat rough (he’s a big puppy who doesn’t know his strength) and playful is the same with adults & children (Bleu lived with a 9yr & 10yr olds). Bleu has spent time with his brother and their playing/wrestling can be a little rough, very excitable/exuberantly. Bleu hasn’t been around Cats. Bleu hasn’t bitten or scratched any person or animal. If Bleu is left loose in the apartment (not in his crate) he’ll bite on furniture (also done when Bleu is “bored”) and or scratch on walls. The owner usually keeps him in his crate for 5hrs to go run errands. Bleu is not bothered/friendly during the following: having his food/food bowl, toys, treats touched/moved, moving off of furniture, disturbing while he’s resting/sleeping bathtime, someone familiar approaching the family, Bleu will bark if someone knocks on the apt door, the owner took Bleu to get his nails trimmed & he listens to sit/stay still while he’s being held/restrained. Bleu is described as friendly, affectionate, very playful, confident, pushy, excitable, independent & anxious (at times). His activity level is very high. The owners favorite thing about Bleu is taking him to the park to play, Bleu will play fetch with sticks/branches he finds and will carry them around. Bleu loves to run in the park. When the owner is home, Bleu will follow him around. Bleu enjoys squeaky toys and enjoys games of fetch, chase, wrestling (is strong and has unintentionally knocked down the children…and his own brother). The owner believes Bleu would do good in a home with a large yard to run/play in with a family of older strong enough teens to handle Bleu. Bleu sleeps in his crate, he eats Blue Buffalo dry food 2cups a day. His favorite treats are the Blue Buffalo Beef treats. He’s housetrained, but if he isn’t walked the usual 3x a day he’ll “go” indoors. Bleu’s known commands are “sit”, “stay”, “lay” & “roll over”. Bleu is walked/ran with for 30mins each walk where he pulls lightly. When off leash (in the park late at night) Bleu stays close and “goes” on grass. During intake Bleu allowed handling..to be scanned (neg), collared, and take his pictures.
05/12/2015 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: How do you spell big puppy fun? B-L-E-U! This beautiful boy is a real goofball, the kind of dog who can make a toy out of just about anything and for whom the world is one endless playground. Surrendered to our care when his former owner moved to a place where pets aren’t welcome, Bleu isn’t letting anything get him down and he’s more than happy to share his love (and some enthusiastic jumping!) with everyone he meets. He’s used to playing exuberantly with adults, kids (he lived with a 9 and 10 year old) and his brother from the same litter and his favorite pastime is heading to the park for a run and some good old-fashioned stick fetching. Crate trained for up to 5 hours, we’re told Bleu knows commands for sit (demonstrated nicely for me), stay, roll over and lay down, and per his notes, he is house trained when taken out 3 times daily. He walks well on leash, greets other dogs with charming manners and plenty of tail wags and when I call him over to the bench he’ll hop up beside me for some brief snuggles before leaping back into playtime. Bleu is a gorgeous youngster with a loving heart and a boatload of potential and he so wants to be a good boy. With active, dog-savvy parents who’ll work on channelling his boundless energy into playing with toys (not leashes, bags and shoes!), honing his current skill set and learning a few new tricks along the way, he’s going to make a magnificent pet. Visit our Manhattan Care Center and discover a whole new world of fun and laughter — Baby Boy Bleu is waiting for you!
05/12/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Bleu pulls hard on the leash. He was excited but very interested in interacting with handler during assessment – jumped up, grabbing at the leash. He was excited during some of the handling items, but had soft body language. Bleu played tug-of-war with the leash during tag interaction and was a bit difficult to distract him. Bleu did not resist being handled while eating, and was easily pushed out of the food bowl. He was not interested in rawhide but took the toy away but had soft body language. Blue rushed in quickly during the dog-dog test, but showed no aggression. Bleu was surrender to us. According to the owner is he is friendly and outgoing to all he meets. His play style of being gentle (at times), exuberant, somewhat rough (he’s a big puppy who doesn’t know his strength) and playful is the same with adults & children (Bleu lived with a 9yr & 10yr olds).
