11/10/2015 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Our Billy is not famous like Billy Holiday but I hope that she will fare better. She is one selfless little elderly gal, very girly, very hungry and always found resting very calmly on her blanket but so ready for me when I come to her door. She is tiny, skin and bones, very hungry and wears a rough but intact brindly coat. Her lovely face, whitened by the years, is embellished by big, dark and soulful eyes. Billy is quite timid, holds her tail between her legs and most of the time carries herself like a tight little bundle, wondering if and when she can take the next step. Billy came with Bob, another female who could be her daughter or her sister as they so much look alike, although their coloring is different. Billy walks peacefully on the leash, does her business on the way, and can sit on command and for treats that she does not grab. Surprising, as she is so skinny. Billy is as one can expect: a lovely lapdog who timidly asks to be petted and gently lifted to rest on the bench with me. So much trust in our species despite how we treated her. Maybe there was, at some point, kindness in her life, a time where she got caresses and food…. and she just remembers…. and puts herself in my hands. I do like Billy very much and I think it would not take too long for me to love her. Would not it be great to validate Billy’s trust in us humans and give her a bright future, a new leash on life as a safe, well cared for and mostly adored forever best friend? I so wish for Billy to spend her golden years with you and never to worry again about what next day will bring. Billy is at the Manhattan Care Center.
