06/16/15 15:06 Basic information Biggie is a 5 year old neutered American pit bull terrier with no past or present medical conditions. Owner has had Biggie for 5 years and is surrendering because of residential issues. Socialization Around strangers Biggie shy at first and will back away but will warm up to you quickly, he plays somewhat rough with strangers and likes to jump up. Biggie has not lived with children and has only been around teenagers who he plays with somewhat roughly. Biggie has spent time around small dogs and played very gentle with them, would roll on his back. Biggie has not be in contact with any cats and his behavior is not known towards them. Behavior Biggie is kept mostly in doors and when left alone in the house he is very well behaved. During storms and fireworks Biggie is calm and relaxed. Biggie allows anything to be taken away from him such as a food bowl, rawhides, treats and toys. When given a bath Biggie was fearful and would shake but stays still for previous owner. Biggie is afraid of getting his nails trimmed and will pull his paw away but does not react in anyway. Biggie isn’t bothered by being pushed off furniture or disturbed while sleeping. When someone Unfamiliar approaches the house Biggie will bark and be hesitant upon entering but once he smells the guest will relax. When outside if a stranger approaches Biggie to try to pet him he will duck his head down and try to move away. For the new family to know Biggie was described as playful friendly and confident. He has a medium activity level indoors and high outdoors. For exercise Biggie enjoys slow walks twice a day. Biggie likes to play fetch and tug and his favorite toys are stuffed animals and balls. Biggie is house trained and never has any accidents inside the house. Biggie has a crate but was never closed in the crate for long periods of time, crate is usually kept open. Biggie knows the commands sit, stay and lay down. Biggie eats pedigree dry food twice a day. When time for bed Biggie would cuddle up on the bed with his previous owner. Behavior during intake Biggie was excited during intake would jump up on front counter but when approached by counselor became a little shy. Biggie slowly approached counselor and smelled their hand but when counselor

It was reported by the owner when someone Unfamiliar approaches the house Biggie will bark and be hesitant upon entering but once he smells the guest he’s relax. The owner stated Biggie is described as playful friendly and confident, he has a medium activity level indoors and high outdoors. The owner mentioned Biggie is house trained and never has any accidents inside the house, he also understand the commands sit, stay and lay down. It was reported Biggie was a little shy but with slow approach he allows you to pet him and he becomes social and allowed all handling upon intake. During SAFER Biggie walked into the assessment room a bit shy and nervous but warmed up to the assessor, allowed all handling items to be conducted without issue. Biggie was fearful during the tag interaction, and during the resources portion of the assessment Biggies was easy to handle when engaged with the items. Is nervous and trembling throughout the assessment and has a crouched body posture. The behavior department advises that future adopters should be able to provide positive experiences for Biggie. In addition, we recommend that introductions are done slowly, and Biggie be given the opportunity to interact at their own pace. The behavior department feels Biggie can be suitable for an “experience” adopter. Look: 2. Dog pulls out of Assessor’s hands each time without settling during three repetitions. Sensitivity: 2. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, his tail is between his legs, body tense, mouth closed. Tag: 2. Dog is fearful but unresponsive when touched. Approaches the Assessor when the game ends. Dog is likely crouching. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Squeeze 2: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. His eyes are averted and his ears are back. Food: 1. No interest. Toy 1: No interest. Rawhide: 1. No interest. Dog-dog: 2. Dog approaches helper dog with tail at spine level, body not stiff, ears relaxed, and lip neutral.
06/25/2015 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE

When off leash with other dogs, Biggie is not interested in play and is selective with other dogs. He exhibits anxious behavior in the yard. 6/26 update: Biggie will allow greeting but is avoidant after the initial interaction. 6/30 Update Biggie continues to be anxious and a bit avoidant after initial interactions in the yard. He is tolerant when greeted.
