08/02/2015 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Betty is a low ridin’, wide smilin’ chunk of charm! The way half of her chest is white reminds me of a court jester and she never fails to put a smile on my face. She’s very friendly, wiggly, and easy to handle. Betty seems to have housetraining, has good leash manners, and hasn’t shown any signs of aggression when we’ve been near other dogs. She loves treats, takes them like a lady, and has tricks up her sleeve! Betty knows “sit” (sometimes the adorable side-sit variety), gives both paws (sometimes simultaneously like a double high five), and also does an adorable hind-legged dance for treats. She’s very easy to connect with and her displays of affection seem very genuine. When I sit on a bench she’s quick to follow, rests her paws in my lap, looks up at me, and proceeds to be the perfect companion for people watching on a hot day. She’s not overbearing, but isn’t shy about planting some kisses on my face or threatening to go belly up! My grandma was named Betty and I’m pretty sure she’d be thrilled to share her name with this lady – she is sweet, amazing, wonderful…and would love to meet you at Brooklyn ACC!
07/30/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Betty came in as a stray, so her past behaviors in a home are unknown. During SAFER Betty came into the assessment room loose and wiggly with her mouth open, she was friendly towards the assessor, allowed all handling items to be conducted without issue. Betty was relaxed during the tag interaction, and during the resources portion of the assessment Betty was easy to handle when engaged with the items. Betty appears to be sociable, and did not display any behaviors concerns, so the department feels she can be suitable for an “Average” adopter. Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted, with tail wagging and ears back. She allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, and her tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is likely closed for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 1. Dog assumes play position and joins the game. Or dog indicates play with huffing, soft ‘popping’ of the body, etc. Dog might jump on Assessor once play begins. Squeeze 1 & 2: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. Her eyes are averted and her ears are relaxed. Food: 1. Dog calmly allows the food to be moved, follows the dish, but does not interfere with the dish’s movement. Dog’s body is soft and loose, eyes soft, tail neutral. She lifts her head when hand is pushed against his cheek. Toy: 1. No interest. Rawhide: 2. Dog takes rawhide away, keeps a firm hold. Her body is between you and the rawhide, and she is loose and wiggly. No growling or stiffness. Dog-to-dog: When off leash with other dogs Betty is anxious. She greets briefly then begins to pant and pact through the yard.

Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
