Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Bernie previously lived with 1 adult and has been socialized with children, cats and dogs. The owner stated When Bernie is around children, cats and dogs he is respectful, relaxed, gentle, affectionate, tolerant and well behaved. The owner mentioned Bernie is house broken and well behaved when home alone. The owner describes Bernie as being playful, confident, excitable, affectionate, mellow, independent and friendly. At intake Bernie was calm and relaxed, he allowed all handling. During SAFER Bernie came into the assessment room calm and relaxed, he was social towards the assessor, allowed all handling items to be conducted without issue. Bernie was relaxed during the tag interaction, and during the resources portion of the assessment Bernie bit the assess-a-hand on food item when applying pressure towards his cheek, toy and rawhide items his displayed no interest. In light of this behavior we feel that placement with a rescue who can provide positive reinforcement-based behavior modification is the best option at this time. Look: 1. Dog holds gaze with soft eyes, soft body. He allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Dog holds gaze for three full seconds. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, and his tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is likely closed for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body soft. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds.
