A volunteer writes: Benny is a handsome blond young man with dark velvety eyes. You can not miss him…He whimpers in his kennel when he hears a person nearby.Benny loves to be with people and enjoys the company of other dogs as well. He is so welcoming in his den and looks at me with such a great smile and hope in his eyes. Benny is leashed easily of course and walks beautifully , not even pulling a bit. His area is clean and orderly. He eliminates as soon as he reaches the street. The first time we met, Benny was a bit anxious. He had a home just yesterday and finding himself abandoned at the precinct and now in a place he does not know comes as quite a shock to his sensitive soul. He is such a “good boy” , though. He comes when called, sits on command, between my legs or on my foot and enjoys caresses and hugs. He is very friendly to other dogs and play bows through the fence to males and females. He gets excited seeing the ball, runs after it and brings it back on and off. Benny appears to have been quite well cared for. He is neutered, very well nourished and wears a gorgeous and silky coat. Most of it, he is friendly, sociable and likes other dogs. Benny did very well on his behavioral evaluation at the care center. You will be able to meet him soon, see how good looking and affectionate he is and hopefully to take him home as your forever best friend. Benny is at the Manhattan Care Center.
03/26/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Benny walks calmly on the leash. He was shy but friendly during the assessment – low body, but trying to stay close. He was shy during handling, buy had soft body language. Benny was distracted, focused on objects in the room rather than the handler during the tag test. Benny was not interested in food, toys or rawhide. Benny was shy during the assessment but he stays close to the assessor. The behavior department feels that he may do best with an experienced adopter. This dog is somewhat fearful and is offering signs of submission. Look: 2. Dog pulls out of Assessor’s hands each time without settling during three repetitions. Sensitivity: 2. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, his tail is between his legs, body stiff, mouth closed, lip long, ears likely back, may lip lick. Tag: 2. Dog is not fearful, but is unresponsive to the Assessor, and approaches the Assessor at the end of the game (may need coaxing to approach.) He is focused on stimuli other than the Assessor. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Dog may lick hand. Squeeze 2:1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Food: No interest Toy 1: No interest. Rawhide: 1. No interest. Dog-Dog: With other dogs off-leash, Benny approaches other dogs she was social but he was not playful.
