12/10/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Benji previously lived with 3 adults and 2 children. The owner stated when Benji is around children he is described to be relaxed and playful and plays exuberantly. The owner mentioned Benji is mostly housetrained but has accidents in the home daily he will use the wee-wee pads, has a high activity level and well behaved when home alone. It was reported by the owner when Benji food is touched while eating he will growl with his tail tucked and hair will raise with tense body language, Benji also does not like to be held and will struggle and give a growl. At intake it was reported Benji was tense he growled and bared his teeth towards the counselor, he allowed limited handling. During SAFER Benji came into the assessment room nervous and tense, this behavior was maintained when entering the behavior assessment room. Not all handling items were able to be conducted as Benji growled and tried to bite the assessor on look item. He displayed no interest in any of the resource items during this portion of the assessment. In light of this behavior we feel that placement with a rescue who can provide positive reinforcement-based behavior modification is the best option at this time. Look: 5. Dog growls and tries to bite. Toy 1: No interest. Dog-dog: When off leash with other dogs, Benji greets politely and engages in brief bouts of gentle play. He may becomes sexually motivated with some dogs.
