09/02/15 17:58 BASIC INFO: Benji A1050128 is a 2 year old Maltese/Chihuahua Mix. He was bought from someone in the neighborhood where Owner lived. Owner has had benji for 2 years. the main reason for surrender is that Owner is moving to a place where pets are not allowed. Benji does not have any health issues or concer4ns. He was last seen by a Veterinarian 2 years ago. SOCIALIZATION: Benji is shy at first with strangers, but once he warms up he is very friendly, sweetm, affectionate and playful. Benji lived with a 17 year old of which he is very relaxed, playful and respectful of. he plays gentle with adults and older children. Benji is afraid of small children. He has never lived with another cat or dog, and if he sees one, he is scared of them. He has never bitten anyone. BEHAVIOR: Benji does poop and pee indoors when left alone. During storms and loud noises, Benji hides. Benji is not bothered if you remove his food bowl, water bowl, and toy. He is not bothered if you push him off of furniture, or if you hold him. He enjoys being bathed and brushed. He has a medium activity level. Benji loves to sleep and play. At home, he follows you around. He loves to play tug with a rope. He loves to play fetch and tug. He is kept mostly indoors. He sleeps on the Owner’s bed. Benji is fed Benefil dry food twice a day. He loves beef sticks treats. Benji is very house trained, he goes anywhere outside. He does have accidents a few times a month. In the house, Benji urinates on newspaper. He listens to the command sit, come and give paw. For exercise, we would jog with the dog. He does not pull on the leash. BEHAVIOR DURING INTAKE: Benji was very nervous upon intake.

Benji is fearful of the shelter environment he walks with a low and fearful body language. He was fearful and repeatedly attempted to get away from the handler during the assessment. He becomes extremely frightened during the tag interaction, tail tucked, and trying to exit room. He became stiff and uncomfortable during paw handling. Benji was not interested in food, toys or rawhide. Benji does not approach other dog, attempts to exit. The behavior department feels that he would do best if placed with a New Hope partner who can follow up on this behavior in a more stable environment and can provide any necessary behavior modification before placement into a permanent home. Benji was surrender to us. According to his previous owner Benji is shy at first with strangers, but once he warms up he is very friendly, sweetm, affectionate and playful. Benji lived with a 17 year old of which he is very relaxed, playful and respectful of. He plays gentle with adults and older children. Benji is afraid of small children. He has never lived with another cat or dog”. We cannot be certain if behavior may be suppressed as a result of the shelter environment. Please note that behavior may change when Benji is more comfortable and settled in a home environment. Look: 2. Dog pulls out of Assessor’s hands each time without settling during three repetitions. Dog repeatedly turns quickly away when touched, or repeatedly spins toward the touch, and repeatedly tries to exit, Dog may be crouching ,tail is tucked, mouth closed, body stiff Squeeze 1: 3. Dog closes mouth, becomes stiff. Flank squeeze 1: 3. Dog head flips while moving hip away. Food 1. No interest. Toy 1. No interest. Rawhide 1. No interest. Dog-dog: 2.
