08/19/2015 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Do you remember the adventures of Benji the dog? This guy actually looks a bit like a bigger version of that Benji! Same golden coat and shaggy ears. Benji from the movies was known for being in the right place at the right time. Unfortunately, where this Benji finds himself now is in the shelter. He’d love to be out and about with you solving crimes (or maybe just sharing an ice cream cone instead, let the professionals do their job)! Benji has a cut on one of his ears but they are patching him up at the ACC and he doesn’t seem bothered by it at all. This goofy guy just keeps smiling, especially in the park where he loved exploring. Stop by and meet him today! Another volunteer writes: There is a note on Benji’s kennel that he tries to flee…..no surprise….he was surrendered by the only family he’s ever known….. the family that he has been a part of since he was a puppy. The family that included children with whom he played gently. He didn’t try to flee with me, as I guess he’s getting accustomed to this new place, new people….all strangers, no children to play and grow old with. We’re told he’s housetrained (check), loves to be around people, knows ‘sit’, ‘stay’, ‘relax’, and ‘lay down’, is described as “friendly, playful and curious”,and walks into the bathtub for baths. I enjoyed meeting Benji as he showed off his nice leash manners (he pulls slightly) as we walked to the park. In the backyard he wags his tail watching a dog in an adjoining pen play ball, but wasn’t interested in playing himself. He’ very sweet, laying his head in my lap for petting, and letting me run my hands through his lush coat. His slightly graying muzzle speaks to his age and wisdom, and his demeanor is that of a calm family boy. He has a boo boo on his ear that’s healing, so he hasn’t gone into group for fear of dislodging the scab that is forming. There’s something about Benji…a sweetness, a vulnerability, the bravery he’s showing in this new environment. My wish for him is that he finds a new family to love and take care of…..He’s an awesome little guy who deserves to spend the rest of his life with a terrific person or family. Are you the one?
