A shelter staff member writes:
Meet Benji!! Benji needs a loving home, medical care, and a whole lot of TLC. At 14 years old, it’s past time little Benji started living the good life. Benji has a lot of mats, over grown nails, and a chronic ear condition that will all need to be addressed. Benji’s eyes are also injured, likely due to him scratching from his ear irritation. Benji has been quite aggressive, but is in a considerable amount of pain, which may be affecting his behavior. Please help give this old man the life he deserves. Pull from MACC today!!

5/15

suspect age vastly overestimatedhard to examine mouth but seems less than 5 yo.

Also suspect eye disease is untreated KCS, not secondary to nails

suspect behavior is pain and blindness combined.

bilateral enucleation would probably improve temperment

d/c’d oral meds., gave 0.2mg/kg metacam, will sedate and shave down, groom, clean ears.

medical problems are fixable: good prognosis , recc bilateral enucleation

behavior may be challenging, but with increased comfort may do well

post grooming: AS very stenotic.

TECA would be appropriate

Observation 5/15:

sedated with ttdex to groom

shaved down, trimmed long nails, cleaned ears

5/16

seems more comfortable today after shave down

needs new hope placement
