06/02/2015 PET PROFILE MEMO
06/02/15 13:00 Ben is a 1.5 year old APBT mix. He was brought to us by a family after they saw him wandering around a gas station for a few days. They stated that he’s very friendly with strangers including children. He rode here in a car full of small children and reportedly did very well with them. In the lobby, he sat among the children and had a soft, relaxed body, open mouth, and wagging tail as they pet him and moved around quickly. Ben had a loose wiggly body, wagging tail, and open mouth during handling-scan (+), collar, switching leashes, and petting. He stood up and leaned into us while we pet him. He sat when asked for pictures and took treats gently. He went into his kennel with little encouragement.
06/05/2015 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: A calm dog was just what I needed at the end of my day at the care center and looking at Ben, I knew I had just found the perfect pooch…His eyes….so flirting….His demeanor…so peaceful…..What a beautiful dog, trim and dressed in an attractive tiger brindle and chesnut coat. Ben sits at the entrance of his kennel, gets leashed in an instant and off we go to the street. He relieves himself at once without marking and walks perfectly by my side, stopping when I stop and nearing other dogs in the most civil way. Loose in a large pen, Ben explores a little, comes when I call him and settles by my side like he was my faithful steed… Sit, lay down, roll, give paw…..Ha!!! Ben does it all! I am under his spell. He so loves to be caressed and talked to. I really enjoy my time with him and I can see that he is happy too, relaxing in the sun and in company. Ben is my shining star today. He is a GREAT dog, well mannered, friendly, sociable and affectionate. A pleasure for the eyes too. Our behaviorist picked up Ben’s talents too and awarded him a wonderful score.. Ben is at the Manhattan Care Center waiting to meet the owner or family who will be so lucky to have him as a forever best friend.
06/03/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Ben was sociable toward the handler during the assessment – soft body, low wag. He had a loose, wiggly body throughout the handling items and occasionally shoulder rubbed but allowed all handling to be completed with ease. During tag, he followed the assessor with a soft body but did get distracted by other stimuli but would refocus once he was called by the assessor. He did not resist being handled while eating, and was easily pushed out of the food bowl. He had no interest in toys and minimal interest in the rawhide. Ben was brought to the care center as a stray; his finders brought him in with their children and they reported that he was friendly to all adults and children he met. During the assessment, Ben showed no concerns. The Behavior Department believes Ben can go to an average home. Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted, with tail wagging and ears back. He allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 1. Dog leans into the Assessor, eyes soft or squinty, soft and loose body, open closed. Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body soft, but he did get distracted by stimuli other than the Assessor occasionally. Squeeze 1&2: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Food: 1. Dog calmly allows the food to be moved, follows the dish, but does not interfere with the dish’s movement. Dog’s body is soft and loose, eyes soft, tail neutral. He lifts his head when hand is pushed against his cheek. Toy 1: No interest. Rawhide: 1. Minimal interest in rawhide, dog may smell and/or lick, then turns away. Dog-dog: 2. Dog approaches helper dog with tail at spine level wagging, body not stiff, ears back, lip neutral.
