04/23/2015 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: By the looks of her, Belle is probably an expert at motherhood. To spend time with her is to learn that her true calling is sweeping people off their feet! She is, of course, BEAUTIFUL; she wears white socks on all four paws and her eyes are the kind that speak. There is nothing dainty about her, but she is so incredibly sweet and gentle. She is a big girl, but seems to immediately sync with her person on walks – often checking in and very rarely pulling. When she “sits” she looks broad shouldered, but almost vulnerable; she takes treats very nicely and seems eager to feel approval. I would never describe her as demanding, but she isn’t shy about letting me know she needs to go outside from her cage; she seems housebroken. When we encounter an uninterested dog through a fence, Belle is very calm and softly wags her tail, but later “barks back” to a different dog. Her mild manners make her easy to be with and her soft displays of affection make it hard to put her back! She seems very aware of her size and is very gentle when propping her paws up on me. She loves to be petted and when I stop she takes small steps closer to me to solicit more. I hope soon it will be Belle’s turn to be swept off her paws and into a loving home — she is waiting patiently at Brooklyn ACC!

04/18/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Belle came to us as a stray on 4/14/15. Upon intake it was reported that Belle was relaxed with soft body language, and easy to handle. She was very easily handled during the SAFER as well, and allowed the assessor to conduct all tactile items without displaying any signs of aggression. She did not resist being handled while eating, and was easily pushed out of the food bowl. Belle only displayed minimal interest in the toy and rawhide items on this portion of the assessment. The behavior department believes that Belle can go to an experienced home. Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted, with tail wagging and ears back. She allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, and her tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is closed for a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 1. Dog assumes play position and joins the game. She indicates play with huffing, soft ‘popping’ of the body, etc. Dog might jump on Assessor once play begins. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog gently pulls back her paw. Squeeze 2: 1. Dog gently pulls back her paw. Food: 1. Dog lifts head and ceases eating when you reach to pull the bowl away or push her out. Toy: 1. Minimal interest. Dog smells, licks and mouths, then walks away. Rawhide: 1. Minimal interest. Dog smells, licks and mouths, then walks away. Dog-Dog: When off leash with other dogs Belle interacted with another dog through a barrier and was observed growling at the helper dog.

04/18/2015 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
When greeting off leash, Belle approaches the gate to greet another dog and stiffens and growls. No introduction in persued at this time. 4/21 Update Due to the previous interaction, a muzzle is used. Belle polite greets the other dog but is very tense and lip licking while meeting and does not attempt to interact with the other dog.
