04/30/2015 PET PROFILE MEMO
04/30/15 13:00 Basic Information: Bella is a 4 year old unaltered Staffordshire terrier/American pit bull terrier mix. She was given to the owner 3 years ago from the previous owner. She is being surrender because the family is moving out of state and cannot take her with them. She goes to the vet regularly and has no known injuries or health problem. The owner says that her favorite thing about Bella is how friendly and loyal she is. Social Life and Personality: Bella has not been around cats or children to know her behavior around them. She has been around dogs and is relaxed and gentle during play with them. She is house trained and does not have accidents in the home. She is kept mostly indoors and has a low activity level. The owner describes her as playful, mellow, independent and friendly. Behavior: Bella will bark, growl, and snap when people go near her food bowl and when she has a bone or toy. When she is in play mode she does not mind if someone takes her toy. She enjoys taking baths. She is not bothered having her nails trimmed, being brushed, held, when strangers approached he family, or when woken up. She will bark at people that come into the home. For a New Family to Know: Bella is used to leashed walks ad playing in a fenced in yard 2-3 times a day. She likes to play with squeaky toys. He has never been crate trained. When people are home she is usually found in her favorite spot. She is well behaved when left home alone but barks when left in the yard alone. She is nervous of loud noises and sometimes shakes during thunders storms and fireworks. She eats dry dog food twice a day. She likes to sleep on blanket. Intake Behavior: Bella was lying on the floor in the office. She was panting during the intake. She allowed handling and nuzzled when pet. She did not show aggressive behaviors.

05/07/2015 WEB MEMO

A volunteer writes: She’s a little chubby, her legs are a little stubby, and she pulls it off with flying colors — its Bella! She is not only incredibly cute, but also a joy to be around. Bella walks very nicely on leash and seems housebroken. Her previous owners report that she has a low activity level, loves squeaky toys, and is relaxed and gentle around other dogs. She has the most adorable face, like her brow is perpetually furrowed, and frequently looks back on walks and maintains a waggy tail throughout. She will “sit” for treats (always the adorable side-sit variety) and even lie down. She nuzzles her head into my lap when I pet her, and once she’s really warmed up will even give kisses! This sweetheart seems like perfect sidekick material –don’t wait before it is too late!!! This girl needs you tonight!!!!

05/04/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Bella walks calmly on the leash. She was sociable toward the handler during the assessment – soft body, low wag. She was calm and relaxed when playing tag with assessor, following at the end of the leash with a soft body. Bella did not resist being handled while eating, and was easily pushed out of the food bowl. She had minimal interest in toys and rawhide. Bella was relinquished to the care center by her owner of 3 years due to moving out of state. Throughout the assessment she was calm, friendly, and social toward the assessor. Her previous owners describe her as playful, mellow, independent and friendly. The owners reported she is relaxed and gentle during play with other dogs. The owners reported that Bella will bark, growl, and snap when people go near her food bowl and when she has a bone or toy. While we did not see this guarding behavior during the assessment, the Behavior Department believes Bella should go to an experienced home that can manage and positively modify any guarding behaviors that may manifest in the home. We also advise against a home with young children for this reason; older children can be considered pending interaction. Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted, with tail wagging and ears back. He allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, and his tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is likely closed for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body soft. Squeeze 1&2: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. His eyes are averted and his ears are relaxed or back. Food: 1. Dog lifts head and ceases eating when you reach to pull the bowl away or push him out. Toy: 1. Minimal interest in toy, dog may smell or lick, then turns away. Rawhide: 1. Minimal interest in rawhide, dog may smell or lick, then turns away. Dog-Dog: When off leash with other dogs, Bella is interested in engaging with another dog but reacts with a vocal correction when the other dog solicits for play. She appears more comfortable when just exploring the yard with the other dog.
