*** BARNEY NEEDS HELP FROM A NEW HOPE PARTNER TONIGHT ***
It’s something most pet owners hope they never have to face—a sudden medical issue leading to their beloved pet being taken to “the pound.” Unfortunately for sweet senior gent Barney, that is exactly the scenario that landed him at the ACC on April first. His former owner does not seem to have recovered in time to save his life, which is why Barney is counting on the Urgent community tonight! This super nice guy should not be killed, just because there was no one else who could care for him while his loved owner recuperated from a sudden change of health. Advocate relentlessly for Barney, tonight!

04/09/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Helper Dog:A1032126 Barney was brought in as a stray surrender so his past behavior in a home is unknown. At intake Barney was reported to be very playful and affectionate, allowing all handling and was easily collared by an admissions counselor. During SAFER Barney was had a relaxed body posture throughout all handling items, as well as the tag interaction. He did show some concerning behavior during the food item; became stiff and snapped at the assess-a-hand when being pushed out of the food bowl. He was not interested in the toys or rawhides, and when approaching the helper dog during the dog-dog, Barney was relaxed and interested in interacting, but was not playful. Barney is great for handling and interacting with people but due to the behavior displayed during the food item, the Behavior Department feels placement with a New Hope partner is recommended so the behavior displayed can be more fully explored before adoption into a permanent home. Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted. His ears are back, his tail is down, and he has a relaxed body posture. Dog allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 2. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, his tail is down, body a bit tense, mouth closed, lip long, ears back. Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body soft. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Squeeze 2:2. Dog quickly pulls back his paw. Food: 5. Dog snaps at assess-a-hand. Toy 1: No interest. Rawhide: 1. No interest. Dog-dog: 2. Dog approaches the helper dog, body soft, tail well above spine level, ears forward.
