09/24/2015 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: How does Baldino fit so much love in that scrawny little body of his? He is incredibly wiggly and just walking past his cage triggers the start of a percussion duet – the tip tap of his front paws quickly moving up and down, and the thump of his tail hitting the wall. He is puppylike in his displays of affection and just seems beside himself with joy to be in the company of people. He loves crawling into laps, propping his paws on new friends (though he doesn’t seem to have the strength to hold it long), and generously doling out kisses! He has nice leash manners and seems to have housetraining. He’s working on putting some meat on his bones, so he lights up at the scent of a treat. He seems to know “sit,” but sometimes prefers to bypass that and do a little dance instead. He takes treats softly and trick or not, he deserves one just for being him! He is sweetly innocent, super fun to be with, and embodies what it is that makes dogs so wonderful – he harbors an unequivocal love for people! Come meet Baldino at Brooklyn ACC – he’ll think the world of you, and maybe he can be a part of yours!
09/19/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPNOCHILD
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Baldino came in as a stray, so his past behaviors in a home are unknown. At intake it was reported Baldino had loose body posture wagging his tail and was polite, he allowed all handling. During SAFER Baldino came into the assessment room with high energy, friendly but consistently jump on the assessor, allowed all handling items to be conducted without issue. Baldino joins the game during the tag interaction and during the resources portion of the assessment on food item Baldino allowed his head to be pushed out the food bowl with a bit of pressure with his body tense, toy item he takes away with his body between the handler and the item, and rawhide he settles close firm, loose and wiggly. Baldino appears to be a high-energy dog that will likely do best with an adopter prepared to provide mental and physical stimulation and appropriate outlets for his energy. Baldino tends to not know his own strength and plays a bit too rough, so the behavior department feels he can be suitable for an experience adopter with no children. Look: 2. Dog pulls out of Assessor’s hands each time without settling during three repetitions. Sensitivity: 2. Dog repeatedly turns toward the Assessor’s hand, with loose body and open mouth, mouths the hand, but does not apply pressure. Or, dog licks hands while lips are long. Tag: 1. Dog assumes play position and joins the game. Or dog indicates play with huffing, soft ‘popping’ of the body, etc. Dog jumps on Assessor once play begins. Squeeze 1: 2. Dog quickly pulls back his paw. Squeeze 2:2. Dog quickly pulls back his paw. Food: 3. Dog follows the dish with his tail down, body tense. Dog lifts head after a bit of pressure from hand to cheek. Toy 1: 2. Dog takes toy away, keeps a firm hold. His body is between you and the toy, and he is loose and wiggly. No growling or stiffness. Rawhide: 1. Dog settles close, keeps a firm grip and is loose and wiggly. He does not place his body between you and the rawhide. Dog-to-dog: When off leash with other dogs Baldino greets well but is slightly sexually motivated. He is tolerant of solicitation but does not engage in play.
09/18/2015 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION
