10/14/2015 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Baijan, my first walk of the day, and there is nothing like starting my day with a soft, tail-wagging, low-key friend. Resting in his kennel, he happily stood as I unlatched his door and out we go. He’s very housetrained, taking care of all his business several times (good thing I carry lots of poop bags!); he’d clearly been waiting for this walk. His leash manners are good, he wagged his tail at kenneled dogs we passed on our way out, and in the street he lies down to watch as a dog approaches. Found with his sister D’ivoire (A1054507), they look alike and have similar personalities, low key, quiet and calm. Baijan is a bit too thin, and while he clearly enjoys his treats, takes them gently with the very edge of his teeth. I invited him up on the bench but he didn’t join me (perhaps not allowed on furniture where he lived before?), but when I came down to his level he came in my lap, snuggly, kissy, soft and tail waggy. Baijan is a non stop tail wagger, wagging faster when a treat is coming his way, or when we chat (he’s a good listener). His gorgeous eyes meet mine as we come to a silent understanding of our friendship. He’s compact and easy, looking for a new home in which his tail will always be wagging.

10/15/2015 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
Baijan initially displayed a stiff body when attempting to introduce through the pen. He has been muzzled for safety reaons before being brought into the pen. He showed significant improvement when introduced a second time (also muzzled) to a calm, female greeter. Though Baijan initially displayed a stiff body, he became a bit less tense and approached to greet, and also tolerated greeting from the other dog. Baijan appears be selective when greeting other dogs. Baijan has not yet been introduced to another dog without a muzzle. The behavior department feels that while Baijan initially showed concern, he has shown some improvement when greeting a calmer dog. An adoption interaction and thorough consultation is highly recommended before placement into a home with another dog. Intial summary: Baijan is stiff when introduced to the female greeter dog through the gate. He is muzzled for safety reasons. Baijan approaches the female helper dog to greet, body still a bit stiff. He growls in response to correction from the greeter. He becomes a bit distracted by the muzzle. 10/21 update: Baijan is re-introduced with a calmer female greeter. He is again muzzled for safety reasons. Baijan approaches and greets, body a bit stiff, but eventually loosens up over time.
