04/14/15 17:55 During intake the dog would approach extended hand and sniff it. She would jump onto admission counselor and lick hand and face. Allowed to be scanned (negative), collared, pictured, and leashed without aggression. When touched had soft body and would pace and pull on leash throughout intake. When another dog came into the office she would whine and pull to try and interact. When given treat took gently and ate.

04/22/2015 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Of course all I could think about when I was with this delightful girl was the commercial ‘Bacon, bacon, whose got the bacon’. She will make you forget that silliness as she smothers you with kisses and as her tail wags a mile a minute with the joy of making friends. Likely housetrained she ‘went’ as soon as we were out the door, and pulled on the leash for a while until settling into a nice rhythm. She’s absolutely stunning in a chocolate brown coat filtered through with gold and bronze threads, her weight is perfect for her size and she’s gentle and easy. Showing off her sit in exchange for a treat which she takes gently, she makes soft and loving eye contact as we make friends. In group play with other dogs she gets along with all even if not totally engaged. I left her in a pen while I went inside to get her kennel ready and when I returned she had been waiting quietly, and greeted me with a happy wagging tail and a kiss. It’s no surprise that this rockstar girl aced her behavior assessment, earning her a place in adoptions as soon as space opens up. In the meantime, you may need to ask for her by name, and when someone starts reciting that silly commercial phrase you’ll be able to proudly say, “I’ve got the Bacon”!! Another volunteer writes: Bacon is so mellow and good that staff uses her as a ‘model’ when training other staff on proper handling procedures. How rockstar is that!! It was raining when I had Bacon out, so that when we came in I toweled her off with a warm towel right out of the dryer. She stood still as I massaged and dried her, giving me an occasional kiss. She is just the sweetest little girl. She pulls on the leash a bit until she goes potty (which she seems to prefer doing on dirt or grass) and then walks nicely. With other dogs off leash she’s quiet and respectful and enjoys dogs that are the same. No rowdy play for this sweetheart! She’s the perfect companion for someone looking for a quiet dog who doesn’t need a ton of play and exercise. Bacon’s needs seem simple, easy walks, lots of love and quiet time. How perfect is that!

04/16/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Bacon was sociable toward the handler during the assessment – soft body, low wag. She was calm and relaxed during handling. She was calm and relaxed when playing tag with assessor, following at the end of the leash. Bacon did not resist being handled while eating, and was easily pushed out of the food bowl. She was not interested in toys or rawhide. Bacon was surrender to the care center by someone who had owned her for only a day; she was given up due to the owner’s living situation. Bacon was friendly and very social upon intake. She was a bit nervous at times during the assessment but did not show any signs of aggression and was easily handled throughout. The Behavior Department believes Bacon can go to an average home. Look: 1. Dog holds gaze with soft eyes, soft body. She allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Dog holds gaze for three full seconds. Sensitivity: 2. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, her tail is low, body loose, mouth closed, lip long, ears likely back. Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body soft, and comes toward the Assessor in a friendly manner when the Assessor ceases moving. Squeeze 1: 2. Dog pulls back quickly. Squeeze 2: 2. Dog pulls back quickly. Food 1. Dog lifts head and ceases eating when you reach to pull the bowl away or push her out. Toy 1. No interest. Rawhide 1. No interest. Dog – dog 2. Dog does not approach the helper dog. Turns body to side in relation to other dog, then exits.
