10/09/2015 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: I’m sure I would’ve never thought it if she had a different name, but Baby’s adorable face sometimes reminds me of Baby Sinclair! You know that bratty little baby from the TV show Dinosaurs with the “gotta love me!” catchphrase? Well, this Baby won’t have to say anything to make you love her! I happened to be there when she arrived and even the driver that transported her couldn’t help but gush about how great she is. She finds herself homeless after her owner died, but as a testimony to the resilience of dogs, seems to be handling it quite well. She’s very wiggly and friendly, quiet in her cage, but comes to the front and solicits attention with eye contact. Baby manages to simultaneously be chunky, spry, and easy to handle. She is great on leash and often looks up with the sweetest smile. When we saw another dog across the street Baby was excited and almost wanted to do a hoppy jog along side it, but whenever she reached the end of the leash would stop, so as not to pull me. When I take her into the yard she’ll chase after a tennis ball, or prop her paws on the fence to greet an admirer on the other side — wiggling her whole back end and making little piggy noises. She’s very affectionate and is quick to sit at my side on a bench and generously give out kisses. To boot, Baby is very food motivated, knows “sit” and seems housebroken. Baby is already spayed and ready to become Baby _____ (your last name here) today! Please come meet this sweet, playful girl at Brooklyn ACC!
10/02/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Baby came in as a stray, so her past behaviors in a home are unknown. At intake it was reported Baby had loose body language with her tail wagging, she allowed all handling. During SAFER Baby came into the assessment room loose and wiggly, she was friendly, playful and social towards the assessor, allowed all handling items to be conducted without issue. Baby joins the game during the tag interaction, and during the resources portion of the assessment Baby was easy to handle when engaged with the items. Baby appears to be sociable, and did not display any behaviors concerns, so the department feels she can be suitable for an “Average” adopter. Look: 1. Dog leans forward or jumps up to lick the Assessor’s face with tail wagging, ears back and eyes averted. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, and her tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is likely closed for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 1. Dog assumes play position and joins the game. Or dog indicates play with huffing, soft ‘popping’ of the body, etc. Dog jumps on Assessor once play begins. Squeeze 1 & 2: 1. Dog gently pulls back her paw. Food: 1. Minimal interest in food, dog smells, then turn away. Toy: 1. Minimal interest in toy, dog smells, then turns away. Rawhide: 1. No interest. Dog-to-dog: When off leash with other dogs, Baby is a bit nervous but will greet the helper dog briefly. She offers correction for mounting.
