A staff member writes: Aztec was brought to us as a stray on the 16th. Since his arrival, he has shown signs of being very nervous within our shelter. Please pull from the MACC to help Aztec find a more stable environment.
BEHAVIOR: Aztec was difficult to remove from his kennel showing teeth, growling and lunges at the rope. He did not show any social behavior. Once he was out of the kennel he was extremely fearful and repeatedly attempted to get away with his fearful body except that he shows his teeth and growl. He tries to bites, and then he retreats as far away from the threat as possible. During the resources Aztec did not resist being handled while eating, and was easily pushed out of the food bowl. He was not interested in toys or rawhide. Aztec does not approach other dog, attempts to exit.
The behavior department feels that he would do best if placed with a New Hope partner who can follow up on this behavior in a more stable environment and can provide any necessary behavior modification before placement into a permanent home.
