04/24/2015 PET PROFILE MEMO
04/24/15 17:30 August (named by the finder’s children) was found tied to a pole outside of an apartment. Finder’s brought her into their home and gave her a bath. They stated that she was easy to place in the tub and tolerated the water. Finders also have children ages 1,3, and 12 and stated that August was very gentle with them and snuggled with the children on the floor. She did not eat the dry dog food that was offered to her, so they just gave her water last night. Finder’s noted that she pulls very hard on her leash. August was very social during intake. She jumped on admissions counselor and took treats from their hand. She did not seem bothered by the other similar sized neutered male in the lobby and remained softed body. She was hesitant to be placed in the cage, however she did not resit being lifted by the counselor. Afterwards she did begin to howl when counsleor would leave the room, but would remain quiet whenever the counsler was next to her.

05/01/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
August was in the finder’s home briefly and interacted gently with the 1-, 3-, and 12-year old children. She has been social, interactive, and easy to handle since intake. August was social with the Assessor and responsive to attention. She had a pattern of being a bit tense at the start of some items, but trending toward comfort as the items progressed, ending with a loose body. She required considerable pressure to move her head out of the food bowl during the first cheek press, but lifted her head and moved away from the bowl during the second cheek press. She was only minimally interested in the toy, and she held onto the rawhide and shied away from the assess-a-hand during the first pass, but became progressively softer in body and relinquished the rawhide. August showed no concerning behavior during her SAFER assessment, and we feel that she is showing behavior appropriate for an adopter with an average amount of dog experience. Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted, with tail wagging and ears back. She allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 2. Dog repeatedly turns toward the Assessor’s hand, with loose body and open mouth, mouths the hand, but does not apply pressure, then moves on to licking hands while lips are long. Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body soft Squeeze 1: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. Her eyes are averted and her ears are relaxed or back. Squeeze 2: 1. Dog gently pulls back her paw. Food: 2. Dog follows the dish with her tail down, body likely a bit stiff. Dog lifts head after a bit of pressure from hand to cheek. Toy: 1. Minimal interest in toy, dog may smell or lick, then turns away. Rawhide: 2. Dog takes rawhide away, keeps a firm hold. Her body is not between you and the rawhide. A bit stiff during the first pass but progressively loosens as the item progresses. Dog-dog: Due to August’s skin condition a dog-dog item was not conducted. August has shown no reactivity toward other dogs in the care center.
05/02/2015 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
When off leash with other dogs August is very playful, offering play bows and jumping in attempts to get the other dog to engage. She is respectful with dogs who are not interested, taking their correction. She is a potential social group helper dog. 5/7 Update August is very interested in engaging with other dogs and will readily offer play bows and is social. She is polite with a dog that is not interested in interacting and does not push socialization with him. 5/8 update: August is social and playful, she is respectful with dogs who are uncomfortable and will solicit and engage in rougher play with dogs who are appropriate.
