04/05/2015 PET PROFILE MEMO
04/05/15 17:23 Attenborough was very playful during the intake. He had a soft wiggly body and tail, soft eyes, and an open mouth, and he was eager to greet and jump onto everyone who passed. He allowed petting and handling was somewhat difficult only because he was so energetic. He showed no signs of aggression.
04/07/2015 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: This dog is so patient and so serene-even sitting in the middle of the hall as everyone comes and goes-that we would all do well to sit in front of his cage and ask him to teach us how to meditate. How in the world can a dog who appears painfully housetrained wait in silence for hours to go out while watching us walk other dogs? How can he bear watching all the playmates he cries to hang out with walking by? But he does all these things, and when it is finally his turn, his enthusiasm and love light up the room and the park and the world. Attenborough is such a good dog, and boy is he easy on the eyes. He could use a little leash training, but who doesn’t need a help with something? Please, come meet this gorgeous dog and get your Zen on!
04/07/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Attenborough pulls on the leash. He was sociable toward the handler during the assessment – soft body, low wag. He was easily positioned for the tactical items but was easily aroused during the tag portion of the assessment, jumped up on the assessor and was focused on grabbing the leash and playing tug-o-war with the leash. He was difficult to push out of the food bowl, but had soft body language. He had no interest in toys or rawhide. Attenborough was brought to the care center as a stray. He was energetic during intake and was eager to jump up and greet people. Throughout the assessment his body remained loose and wiggly. He exhibited a high energy level, especially during the Tag portion of the assessment. The behavior department believes Attenborough would do best in an experienced home that can provide him with substantial physical stimulation and work with him on his leash manners, as he was very focused on playing leash tug-o-war during Tag. Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted, with tail wagging and ears back. He allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, and his tail is wagging with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is likely closed for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 2. Dog is not fearful, but is unresponsive to the Assessor, jumps up on the Assessor, plays tug-o-war with the leash. He is focused on stimuli other than the Assessor. Squeeze 1&2: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds, licks Assessors hand. His eyes are averted and his ears are relaxed or back. Food: 2. Dog follows the dish with his tail at spine level, body neutral. Dog lifts head after a bit of pressure from hand to cheek. Toy: 1. No interest. Rawhide: 1. No interest.
04/14/2015 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
When off leash with other dogs, Attenborough is very playful but can be a bit pushy. He can be sexually motivated with females, but takes correction well. 4/17 update: Attenborough continues to be sexually motivated. Although he takes correction well from most dogs, if the other dog is pushy he may continue to push back, not accepting the appropriate correction.
