07/15/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Ashanti came into the care center as a stray, so we do not have information on her past behaviors in a home. At intake Ashanti was reported to be friendly and allowed all handling. During SAFER Ashanti was also very sociable and maintained a relaxed body posture for all handling items as well as the tag interaction. During the resources portion of the assessment Ashanti was easy to handle when engaged with the food allowing the assessor to easily push her out of the food bowl. She only showed minimal interest in the toy items, and when engaged with the rawhides, she held a firm grip but was loose and wiggly. Ashanti appears to be very sociable and interacts well with human handlers and has also been reported to be tolerant of other dogs, so the department feels she can be suitable for an adopter with an average amount of dog experience. Look: 1. Dog holds gaze with soft eyes, soft body. She allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Dog holds gaze for three full seconds. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, and her tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is closed for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body soft. Squeeze 1 & 2: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. Her eyes are averted and her ears are back. Food: 1. Dog calmly allows the food to be moved, follows the dish, but does not interfere with the dish’s movement. Dog’s body is soft and loose, eyes soft, tail neutral. She lifts her head when hand is pushed against her cheek. Toy: 1. Minimal interest in toy, dog sniffs, then turns away. Rawhide: 2. Dog takes rawhide away, keeps a firm hold. Her body is between you and the rawhide, and she is loose and wiggly. No growling or stiffness. Dog-dog: Off leash Ashanti is tolerant but will correct appropriately, allows greeting, but generally explores her surroundings.
