04/21/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – BEGINNER
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Arod came into the care center with limited information on his past behavior in a home, but he was reported to be friendly during his medical exam, and was tolerant of all handling. During SAFER Arod was sociable towards the assessor, and was very attention seeking. He allowed the assessor to conduct all handling items without issue, and he had a relaxed body posture during the tag interaction. Arod was easily pushed out of the food bowl during the food item, and he was easy to handle when engaged with the toys and rawhides. Arod interacts well with people, and did not show any concerns on SAFER so the department feels Arod can be suitable for a “Beginner” experienced adopter. Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted, with tail wagging and ears back. He allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, and his tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is open for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body soft. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. His eyes are averted and his ears are back. Squeeze 2: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. His eyes are averted and his ears are back. Food: 1. Dog calmly allows the food to be moved, follows the dish, but does not interfere with the dish’s movement. Dog’s body is soft and loose, eyes soft, tail neutral. He lifts his head when hand is pushed against his cheek. Toy 1: 1. Dog settles close, keeps a firm grip and is loose and wiggly. He does not place his body between you and the toy. Rawhide: 1. Dog settles close, keeps a firm grip and is loose and wiggly. He does not place his body between you and the rawhide. Dog-dog: When off leash with other dogs, Arod is generally tolerant and respectful but is a little pushy and eager to greet a more nervous female.
